Gen X jumpscare here.
@pollytics
Political, economic and policy stuff. An unrepentant guitar gear hoarder. You know who I am. A social democrat on the beats - a libertarian between the human, civil and political rights sheets. The stupidity in this country is exhausting. Moreton Bay
Gen X jumpscare here.
And there wouldn't be a single thing anyone could fuckin' do about it.
If anyone was really keen on showing up the stupidity of banning a certain phrase, they could get Jack River and The Cruel Sea to write a quick song about Palestine (they'd probably be up for it)
Then you could have your T-shirts: "From Jack River to the Cruel Sea, Palestine will be free".
<chuckles>
Imagine being Gail Furness.
Being offered the The Inspector of the National Anti-Corruption Commission, thinking yeah - institutional oversight. Serious role tweaking the highest anti-corruption body in Australia.
Probably now thinking "I need 160 staff just to deal with these twats"
Whilst the differences in standards may, to a layman, seem profound - possibly only a cigarette paper of difference to those lesser educated in the complexities of the matter at hand - to learned people it is a chasm... or some horseshit.
I agree with that old sports line that "the journey is in the trying"
But you need a better destination than whatever the fuck that is.
When you get to the top, god herself sends down a halo to permanently sit atop of your perfectly behaved noggin, because you no longer have any incentive other than to maintain perfection itself.
This is literally one of the most profoundly stupid and ignorant things I've ever seen written about executive level public sector behavioural incentives that I've ever read - from X The Everything App at 1:00am on a Saturday morning, right through to <checks notes> the fucking NACC.
"So wadddya reckon about this social cohesion stuff that's going on mate"
"I'm a fifth generation Peel Valley farmer and every time my granddad hears that, it hurts his prostate"
And let's be brutally honest - political parties know this, but they have decided something akin to "It's only Palestinians - it's not worth the effort"
Which changes them from being simple cowards to expedient grubs.
Trying to ban "from the river to the sea" is almost identical to trying to ban "Always was, always will be"
Imagine a political party trying to do the latter - they'd be rightfully driven like a tent peg.
Caving in to a foreign influence operation because it's easy is pathetic.
"hey what about this brand new idea? company scrip". These fucken people I s2g
Mate.
Maaaaaaate.
Lang Hancocks vision of building new canals with nuclear weapons has come!
Lol. The state of some people's noggins
Lol
All I can come up with is:
I think that's the best soundscape board I've ever seen! JFC!
My compliments to the chef comrade!
OK, I've got one.
War On Christmas! ๐คฃ
I feel sorry for scriptwriters doing political shows these days.
"If I wanted to do documentaries, I'd do fucking documentaries!!"
Deputy Commissioner, Kylie Kilgour, in her own words, on the Robodebt wrist slapping exercise:
The open books/folders on the desk in front of her are meant to convey gravitas....or some form of pathetic prop...take your pick.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiTT...
Oh dear. That's pretty funny.
Imagine the conversation that led to that desk being that way.
There was that one time, at band camp, where the Americans went "War on Alcohol" and the ALP went, "Steady on mate, the 6 O'clock swill is as far as we'll go"
We all want neat things - easy and obvious moral and ethical clarity about the decisions we make, but more importantly their consequences.
But that world is a fantasy of commentary, not actual decisions that have to be made in a very messy world where there's never goodies and baddies, just stuff
Tracking and enabling the destruction of inanimate objects whose primary purpose is to blow shit up in third party countries, spread carnage and kill people would take a hell of an enabling thing where you can reasonably and honestly say it's a "bad thing" to do.
But Tim, once you start aspiring dhaaaaaaaarling, you never stop.
Did you see this? bsky.app/profile/poll...
That's great - people should start getting on to that!
Whilst those people are trying to convince a bunch of nutters that waging war for the purposes of bringing about biblical prophecy might not be great and expecting rational responses, the rest of us can do more practical, available things.
They're the ones trying to, and sometimes succeeding in blowing it up.
Yes, I know, the Israelis and the US have also bombed Iranian infrastructure, but I don't care about the sportsball of it, but the consequences of it that can actually, rather than fantasy, be avoided.
