i was teaching java back when netbeans was a popular ide lol and it had a wysiwyg editor for ui that generated absolute garbage code where i could tell a student used it even if the assignment said not to. their code worked though, but they locked themselves into the netbeans editor.

Saw a thoughtful thread about AI, don't want to QT or argue. But. The biggest rage factor with LLMs is the people who, because genAI is transformative for coding, think it's transformative for everything else, because they devalue every other form of work and labor and knowledge.

I chuckled "Capitalism?"

The @ipso.co.uk ruling of Telegraphβs preposterous βWe earn Β£345k but soaring private school fees mean we canβt go on five holidaysβ, reveals the article to have been a fabrication. There is no such family as Al, Alexandra, Ali, Harry and Barry Moy. Glad to have acted as lead complainant on this.

What's scary about this story is the surveillance it hints at. This trans woman had changed her name, legally, but chose not to change her gender marker. She was apparently flagged in the DMV system as trans and her license was invalidated under a law that supposedly only concerned gender markers.

If I were Labour, I'd be using the cushion provided by having 400+ MPs to race to implement PR in time for the 2029 GE.
It could literally be the party's last ever chance to participate meaningfully in UK politics if they don't shake the electoral system up.

Tired: BrewDog has betrayed its punk roots by accepting private-equity cash
Wired: BrewDog's "punk" schtick was always an expedient marketing sham
Inspired: BrewDog incinerated billions of dollars of implied value and made global capital interests look stupid, finally fulfilling its punk mission

I talk a lot about how lifting heavy has made me more assertive, stronger and all that jazz. Itβs a bit tongue-in-cheek.
More seriously, the small improvements are the ones that have changed my life the most.
I can now do heel raises without support.
I donβt trip and fall as much.

Today: The Government rolls out a bill, which suggests 16-year-olds are mature enough to vote.
Also today: The Government rolls out a consultation, which implies that young people probably won't be trusted to have a Discord account until they're 16.

I do struggle to understand Shabana Mahmood: if this was what she came into politics to do, why was it the Labour Party that attracted her? Throughout most of the last 20 years, the Conservatives would've been a much more obvious fit.
If it's not, why's she doing it so zealously?

First question to look for is: what do they call βsocial mediaβ? After all, the OSA was five years of fighting cynically drafted attempts to chuck any site/service on the open internet under the Facebook bus. And they are still trying with separate legislation.
