Exactly. I don’t doubt they’ll be problematic (lots of people shudder at the company’s mention), but there’s no folksy “oh they gave us these beloved books” to hide behind or obfuscate. This is just naked venture capitalism and we know it.

Right? I think a mix of unawareness, and then the privileged class whom he helped and didn’t act stupid around, probably. Either way, I find it frustrating that memories are so short.

It came out later that he did much, much worse, and that was the final nail in his coffin. Richardson had to fire him after that but I doubt that he would have if it weren’t made so public.

I’ve known a LOT of people who have worked for him or his company over the last 20 years, and they’ve ALL got stories.

I myself have been victim of the trickle-down of his poor leadership that I’m still trying to financially recover from.

So yeah, end of an era, but also in a good way, probably.

He deserves the accolades he’s earned; his contributions to this industry are numerous.

We all love Hellboy and Sin City, Usagi, maga translations…
And a lot of privileged people in comics love Mike for what he’s done for them.

But he also deserves the criticism…

I know Richardson was an absolute force in the industry, changing the landscape of comics forever, giving lots of opportunities to amazing indie work.

He also stifled a lot of great projects and creators, enabled workplace abuse, and perpetuated ineptitude all through his company.
