A minimalist movie poster on a white background. At the top, a small line reads “From the director of *Field of Dreams*.” Beneath it, a tall vertical stack of large metallic-gray names fills most of the poster. Near the bottom, the film’s title SNEAKERS appears in bold, bright red capital letters.
Under the title, a tagline reads: “A burglar, a spy, a fugitive, a delinquent, a hacker, and a piano teacher… and these are the good guys.”
In the lower right corner, the page appears to peel back like a folded sheet, revealing a strip of faces of main characters of the movie looking forward with curious or cautious expressions, partially hidden under the curl. The design suggests secrecy and intrigue, hinting at a team of unconventional experts.
Watching now: Sneakers (1992).
One of my favourite movies that I can watch over and over. A memorable score by James Horner, with Branford Marsallis.

That's exactly it. And not just for Trek or any other sci-fi show, but for every show out there that relies on CGI over practical effects. CGI is cheaper, yes, but the end result also looks exactly like it: cheap, fake, and awkward.

a cartoon of homer simpson holding a card
Alt: A cartoon GIF of Abe Simpson waving a small piece of paper and yelling something through a window. This meme is widely know as "Old Man Yells at a Cloud".
CGI has its uses, of course. But usually it's so irritatingly recognisable that it entirely breaks the immersion. Give me old-school practical effects any time, warts and all, over CGI slop.

I really hate how CGI is omnipresent in tv productions and films. It tries to look realistic, but does entirely the opposite. It all looks fake. Unnatural. I can't watch shows like modern Star Trek, where everything looks so ridiculously artificial. Not to mention being shite in general.

Just happened to find it today, entirely by accident. Took the item, read the description hastily and took off, then read it again and turned back for a wee dip in the pond! 🙂

A great movie. The Director’s Cut is even better than the original theatrical release.

A screenshot of the top western corner of the map of Sunstrider Isle with a large archway in the background and a small courtyard with a fountain in the centre.
A shot of the Gilded Eversong Cup, a small teal green and gold decor cup.
A nice little decor piece in Sunstrider Isle. Just click on the little bowl and a small phoenix will appear. It will circle the fountain, slowly dropping flames. Stand in the circles of flame and when complete, click the bowl again and you receive the little Gilded Eversong Cup. #Midnight #WoW

A colorful, hand-painted poster for The African Queen shows Humphrey Bogart holding Katharine Hepburn on a small riverboat amid jungle chaos. Around them, crocodiles attack, people struggle in the water, and a steamboat explodes in flames, capturing the film’s mix of danger, adventure, and romance.
Watching ’The African Queen’, for an umpteenth time.
Always so good!

I played the first Assassin's Creed back in the day and thought it was brilliant. I didn't really come back to the franchise until I picked up AC Odyssey on discount, and fell in love with it. Then AC Origins, and Valhalla.
Those worlds are real to me. They are incredible. Wonderful. Unforgettable.

I hate CGI in modern movies. Everything looks fake. CGI used to complement practical effects and it was often fine. Now it's all CGI and it looks absolutely shite. Every single time.

Overhead movie poster for Paul: a small grey alien with a large head and black eyes stands between Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, who look up in shock. Purple glowing sci-fi background with the tagline, “Who’s up for a close encounter?”
Watching "Paul". One of those fun, goofy, feel-good movies that deserve more attention than they seem to get.

What's so amazing about Jim Henson as a puppeteer is that he could literally be explaining that Kermit is made out of felt and ping pong balls and yet Kermit still feels alive the whole time he's doing it

Final post in the M&A opens up (I hope) some new pathways & opportunities. Very happy to talk with in-house teams & specialist consultants. We may create a field book. With very little amendment, it could become a generic approach to organisational change thecynefin.co/ma-12-12-a-n...

Satyendra Nath Bose (1894–1974) was a brilliant Indian theoretical physicist/polymath. He revolutionized quantum mechanics in 1924, developing Bose-Einstein statistics & predicting the Bose-Einstein condensate.
Einstein was 1st to recognize his brilliance.
Bosons are named for him. 🧪

3) "Solid Sernade" (1946)
This short has everything you’d expect from T&J, but cranked to eleven. From Tom’s singing to Jerry untying Spike where the real fight begins, and the timing is perfect. Standout moments include Tom wacking Spike with a brick as he peeps above him. Excellent short overall.

Men in Black, and Back to The Future. Great, entertaining, fun movies!
Men in Black II, and Back to The Future II. Flawed, not nearly as much fun as the first ones. Almost best forgotten.
Men in Black 3, and Back to The Future 3. Back to the form: fun, entertaining, and MiB3 was even poignant.
