While South Korea vows to be a top 4 arms exporter, peace activists continue resistance, stressing that warmaking is a wrongful act. Here is my paper on the criminalisation of their resistance and its justice implications.

The natural environment has remained a forgotten victim of ‘the Troubles,’ as well as a marginalised aspect of the peace process, writes @ecojustice.bsky.social of @fos-uhh.bsky.social.

Spent lovely time for two months in Korea. Huge thanks to tremendous support from @fos-uhh.bsky.social Had two book launch events, thanks to a passionate activist researcher Yoon Seok Jang (left in the picture). My book is competing against "STOP THE STEAL".. Will mine beat it ever?🧐
From today, South Korea can detain asylum seekers up to 36 months without trials and unlimited extention is allowed. Only 1 voted against, 268 in favour, out of 300 lawmakers. SK's shameful violations of the Refugee Convention continue, while it seeks leadership (?) in UN human rights institutions 😡
This book is written to lay the cornerstone for my works on the meaning of post-anthropocentric peace, while its remit is to identify the structural drivers of ecocidal tendencies. Please spread the words to your Korean networks🤩
Since the martial law in Korea I've been silent cuz of my headache.. still the political situation is crazy but despite embarrassment, I published a book on resisting ecocide and green justice (printed in Korean) with the May Books publisher🫡
Yoon and his party's actions are utterly outrageous. Lest we forget, however, people power didnt rise to serve another oligarchs of the construction state: the Dems also has expanded green-washed mega-construction projects and military spending while oppressing progressive campaingers..

Throwing the whole country into political limbo, Yoon appointed Sun Young Park, "anti-communist warrior", as new head of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of South Korea. Once claimed the May 16 military coup was to "rebuild the nation", She officially took office today. Red-tagging continues😡

Join hybrid workshop co-hosted by @psaenvironmental.bsky.social on 20 Feb 2025! I'll discuss the continuing ecocidal tendencies and the shrinking foothold of green lefts after the 2024 general election (and well, politics post-martial law..😶) in South Korea as post-developmental construction state
This man has a lot of masks still not unveiled.. but considering his role as power broker in manipulating polls and 'advising' politicians (and offering them shaman rituals like tree planting) I see Chungong as K-Rasputin (wannabe) while Myung is a male version of Choi Soon-Sil..sort of Karl Rove🤔
Oh dear..😮💨😮💨😮💨 I am torn apart.. I think we shouldnt let this man get a fame but also he is the one that still shakes the country!
Whatt a work! We should continue keep our eyes on Kim's fortune teller
/shaman (or "guru") Chungong too..🤐😒😮💨
Arguably the 1987 democratisation and the 2017 "candlelight revolution" couldn't be successful without mass workers' protests and strikes but the "revolutions" quickly cooled down desires for equality other than "the restoration of the (liberal-market) democratic order". Will this time be different?
Martial law came as a huge shock to many, and Yoon has shown extremely deviant behaviours (as a "liberal" leader). But adding to extreme conservatism, there have been dangerous tendencies (red-tagging, fearmongering, militarism, North Korea, poverty..) that feed Yoon and his friends' insane plan..
Post-martial law situation now evolves into Korea's third presidential impeachment trials. But how far this moment will be a critical juncture for the weakening leftists/progressives is in question. Self-promotion but my commentary might be worth checking to understand the withering politics in SK😮💨
welcome old Twitter friends and new Bluesky friends 😀 This is a chance for me to shamelessly promote the Beastly Business project, which brings together #PoliticalEcology & #GreenCriminology to examine #IWT in European species. beastlybusiness.org
Ah, is that so? Your name was familiar to me indeed. I was there at DASMI (like ten years ago isnt it?). I remember now that I was a wee BA student listening to your presentation without any idea🤤.. I was a RA for the Saemaeul oral history project back then😯
