All the clips I’ve seen seem very reminiscent of Coppola’s version, which had a very distinctive perspective that went far beyond Stoker’s text. Is this something different or just Coppola 2.0?

Austen adaptations are generational, so it’s hard to be fair once you’ve committed to a favorite. For me, that would be the 1996 movie with Gwyneth Paltrow. Its casting feels almost uniformly better except for the always excellent Bill Nighy in the new one
Maybe 6 was also denied its proper place by the replacement of Saavik with Valeris. No disrespect to Kim Cattrall who played her role well. But Saavik's return would have helped clarify a narrative throughline with the accepted trilogy.
Maybe 5 is to blame for 6 being overlooked. It interrupts the continuing storyline with a detour, leaving 6 stranded from its natural companion films.
Nicholas Meyer's creative involvement, David's death as a major plot point, Sulu's promotion to captain. The thematic connections are too strong to write off 6 as an epilogue. It deserves to be fully integrated into a proper tetralogy, with 5 as the outlier.
Strange to me that 6 seems like an afterthought when discussing TOS movies. Feels like a huge mistake was made in branding 2-4 as a trilogy because the story is unfinished without 6 as the capper.
I struggle with so many passages about Florentine citizens of his time. Conceptually, I appreciate that their sins and virtues are more tangibly human than some of the mythic characters. But in practice, it can be cumbersome to break up the poetry by constantly checking the footnotes for context
Both played by Englishmen
As for Ted, DC clearly set him up to be the breakout character of the Charlton acquisition. I wish he still had that level of editorial support. It’s wild that Peacemaker is now the former publisher’s most popular alumnus
Of all the original characters to emerge from Crisis — Monitor, Anti-Monitor, Pariah, Harbinger — Lady Quark is easily the least interesting.
Where does Deathlok rank? His series was closer to the bottom than the top. But there seems to be enough affection for the character and concept to make him an enduring role player in the greater Marvel landscape.
Ghost Rider was probably the standout of that group, followed by the Warriors. The Guardians wouldn't fully come into their own as movie stars until a later incarnation. Nomad and Foolkiller were busts.
Back when Marvel promoted its new titles with "rookie" trading cards. The rookie class of 1990 also included Ghost Rider, Nomad, Foolkiller, Guardians of the Galaxy and the New Warriors.
And threw it away needlessly since they already had Conner to fill the role of a teenage Superboy
The only thing I don't like about that cover is Ralph's knockoff Plastic Man costume
What happened to the Detroit League? They would have been in their prime in 1985.
How many hits does it take to get hooked? I remember about 5 covers from my earliest days of collecting that made me fall in love with comics. This is one of them
His role in Legends made it seem like he was being groomed for the A-list. But the failure of his solo book and success of JLI cemented his image as a goofball first and foremost. I love that side of him. I just wish DC would give him a chance to show the other side too
I love JLI. Might be my favorite run of all time. Blue Beetle is great in it. I just wish that wasn’t the ONLY type of story treatment he was given. When DC first acquired his rights, his adventures were more balanced between silly and serious fare.
Discovered the series about a year ago when I pulled an issue out of the dollar bin. Loved it and set out to find them all. Currently only missing issues 9 & 13
Pretty standard sci-fi concept. The future becomes so sanitized that someone from the past is needed to do the dirty, physical work of saving the day. Buck Rogers, Demolition Man, etc
Got mine in the club’s last year at Olympic Stadium. Terrible park, great memories
Stick with it and you’ll find your groove
A year before Brainiac!
Next up, Flash Comics from the 1940s. Good luck!
I only lasted three episodes. There’s too much cruelty and cynicism in the world. I don’t need it in my entertainment too
Well, somebody remembered it because it was adapted into a TV show that ran for 100 episodes
For a sec, I thought you were describing a Rocky prequel that told the origin story of Burgess Meredith’s character
I totally respect that you disagree. Just wanted to explain my opinion
