Really wondering when the centralized account infrastructure idea joined the room. It "just" requires a local place to store age/date of birth of an user while the account is set up and an api returing the age bracket of the currently logged in user.
Then it's the responsibility of the content provider to, based on the age bracket, only deliver age approiate content.
No excuse for delivering adult only content if under 13 bracket is returned.
Please don't get me wrong, not a fan of the law. I'm just explaining how I (not a lawyer but used to read and assess legal texts in my field) understand it:
- Parent is responsible to set the correct age
- Adult content provider is responsible to use the api and receive the age bracket data

The adult setting up the account for a minor is responsible to set the correct age. So that the system and not the minor trying to install an "adult only" game is asked whether it is an adult.
So that the kid can't lie about its age.
It puts the duty on the adult (account holder) buying and setting up the machine for a minor (user).
That way the "porn site" (normal webpages like such sites are actually excluded, so let's say porn game site) asks the system (controlled by an adult) and not the user for age confirmation.

My main problem with Gear Lever (back when I tested it), it was impossible to have different versions of an app image managed (in my example FreeCAD 1.0 and the nightly build).
Switched to the cli tool "am" and later to the GUI for it "am-gui" to solve that probem.

Ehm, I'm not a fan of this new CA law, but it's more the opposite to surveilance. Instead of 100s of third party service for age verification a central one on the computer which isn't allowed to share any data (not technically required for the verification) with third parties.
I also had some excursion into the Linux desktop world over the last ~20 years. Ubuntu was also one of the distributions I tried (more than once). Always felt fancy, but not "right".
2 years ago I installed Mint. Just felt like home to me and still does.

Most tutorials out there were written at a time when there was no "right click.." option. And outdated tutorials are a real problem to (not only) new user.
For sure it depends on the distribution (like always). For several (Mint f.e.) the difference in experience between AMD and Nvidia GPU is limited to installing the Nvidia driver (and enroll the MOK if secure boot is enabled) and a reboot.
Once that's done you're good.
Not using popos myself, but all Linux distribution I ever used offered the information by executing
cat /etc/issue
It depends on the level of integration. Mint is rather good with it. If you install the Nvidia driver using the "Driver"-GUI (or apt with the predefined sources) it will keep everything aligned perfectly during updates and (dist-)upgrades.
Which Desktop environment are you using?
VNC / ssh tunnel is my prefered way, but there are others too.
