Just like Wikipedia has shown what's possible with millions of people for encyclopaedic content, @wikisim.org is aiming for something similar.
If any of that interests you it might be easier to swap to email: hello[at]wikisim.org
Otherwise that was a great convo and I wish you a peaceful week Roy.

Updating David MacKay's 'Sustainable Energy Without the Hot Air'
2. I'm copying the core facts and calculations from Prof MacKay's book Sustainable Energy Without the Hot Air into a wiki so that we can have a high level National Energy Strategy plan in a public wiki to allow any expert to edit it and improve it. ajamesphillips.com/blog/david-m...

Thank you Roy. That's an eloquent, measured and insightful response. I'm ignorant about most things but you've given me a lot of pointers there to follow, thank you.
2 offers given from me to you with no expectations:

This ultimately means that our retail electricity and gas prices are as low as they can be from a perspective of efficient retail providers.
Of course they're actually quite high compared to European prices...

Hey thanks for the clarifying question Roy. Yes I could have been more specific. I'll put forward two claims now, would be interested to hear your thoughts:
1. According to the expert source quoted in that article "Simple Stockbroking", they claim an initial investment would be worth x10 now.

British Gas shares: Thousands 'told Sid' 25 years ago
It was 25 years ago that the
"Tell sid" seemed to work out okay for electricity and gas according to this article www.bbc.co.uk/news/busines... but why can't we copy the same model for water?

Thanks Jameelur, do you have any impartial detailed resources you'd recommended I read about this and why they're not effective? Or not applied?

Eg perhaps we need to look at other countries? Or other sectors that have natural monopolies but control their externalities and avoid regulator capture and treat fines as just a cost of business as usual.
Can anyone help with that? Are there already obvious interventions we're just not applying?

I'm at an OpenDataDay hackathon hosted by Wessex Water tomorrow and Tuesday.
This is a common story that we want to tell AND show solutions for.
To do that I think we need the data, insights and narratives for how we currently do things AND how it could be done differently, better.

In general I mostly failed to make better sense of the situation yet but that's to be expected. It's complex. Not all (most of?) the relevant data is not trivially easy to get hold of and calculate over.
Also strange to see these massive numbers converted into per person values and be so tiny.

Totally non-Interoperable, Very Important Data
Came across some more "Totally non-Interoperable, Very Important Data". Would love to know how they arrived at that solution as it genuinely looks harder to do than almost any other web solution I can think of but perhaps there's a good reason? #open-data

Yeah it's a common confusion. You see those games on Steam which sell millions? They only play tested _after_ selling 10k copies because _they already knew_ they knew their game was great. If you do play testing too earlier... your lack of confidence will hurt your sales. Don't do that. #be-smart

If you do do play testing you must always make sure you do the play part first because the guild of testers are really dull and super pedantic, so you have to maximise your serotonin levels to survive their, yikes... they're outside the window... shhiii...

Think about it this way, if you play test a car you usually get put in prison unless you wear gloves, a hair net and can run really fast. So basically play testing is the only legal high around nowadays, or sumfing.

Inspiring Skillful Approach to Grief and Anger
Reflections on someone's skilful, and determined approach to move beyond the anger of a tragic event towards forgiveness and more peace.
Such a tragic event but what a skilful approach from being "consumed by grief, anger, and hate" to "feeling that anger [gave] some control." to realising its harm and then the wisdom and strong determination to "[refuse] to let it consume her life." Inspirational.
