First, banks are simply not going to make home insurance optional, full stop. Unlike the current US government, banks acknowledge climate change. They’ve seen the data showing the surge in billion-dollar weather disasters over the past 20 years, partly a result of the planet getting hotter. Now more than ever, they have no interest in gambling that their massive investment in your house will be wiped out overnight. There’s also no chance that any conceivable US Congress would pass a law forcing banks to do so.
