This is almost the exact spot (~right behind Lyric Opera) where I am just gob-smacked some days on my commute what a beautiful city we have

β€œThey were careless people, Tom and Daisyβ€”they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.” - The Great Gatsby

Exact meter, exact message

We will use the wild strategy of anonymizing ourselves by being so eminently relatable that we seem like everyone all at once

Funny to see progressive disclosure as an "agentic design pattern" when, friends, that's literally just good comms. I swear by Bottom Line Up First for any professional information sharing

Did WaPo's mass layoffs include all their pricing folks or what?

Pay monthly netting ~$26/yr or upfront at $40/yr πŸ€”

This from @petridishes.bsky.social is brilliant, and should be made into a documentary.

"Anonymous accounts massively profited from absurdly well-timed bets on geopolitical events" is absolutely guaranteed and recurrent of a news story as news anchors reporting about Thanksgiving travel delays

I'm intrigued by the example in this specific screenshot, tho. I would think the best practice would be to only import needed packages not the omnibus tidyverse, so it's interesting to see code reviewer give opposite advice!

Tangentially relevant, but I find myself referencing your posts so often on your explorations with local LLMs and recommended system set-ups. Thank you so much for sharing your insights!

Independent news media needs a "financially support us but we promise to not tempt or enable you with access to any premium ungated content" tier for those of us that appreciate the mission but are absolutely maxed out on content

There's a moment in every data engineer's career when they discover they can query a 10GB Parquet file on their laptop in seconds.

That's the DuckDB moment.

It changes how you think about what requires a cluster and what doesn't. Spoiler: most things don't.

This was a fantastic, honest episode! Hard to imagine a group that clearly cares more about the craft of ergonomic tools than Astral, so really interesting perspective on what agentic coding both gives but takes away

I think few things have impacted my technical comms skills (such as they are) more than before-times Twitter.

Amazing to discover how much you can communicate in as few characters as possible! Felt like a game then but really a useful life skill

Rereading this excellent post by @vickiboykis.com, "I want to see the claw", in a world where "OpenClaw" exists 😭

This should be a much bigger story. Kegseth is essentially saying he wants to use the Anthropic software to commit war crimes and will therefore not agree to be bound to well established US and international law rules. Outrageous.

The thing people don't get is that when Sec 230 is repealed, platforms could become much more restrictive in their moderation to avoid legal risk. Smaller platforms like BSky might struggle to survive due to higher compliance/legal costs and some lawful content might be removed preemptively.

My nephews got Learning Resources Christmas presents this year β€” thoughtful quality toys and a great reminder to stand up for what you believe in (granted they are still working on standing generally)

Check them out!

You can also show your medical data to your dogs for a second opinion. The benefit of that is that your dogs aren't harvesting your private data.

Scientists no Longer Find Twitter Professionally Useful, and have Switched to Bluesky Synopsis. Social media has become widely used by the scientific community for a variety of professional uses, including networking and public outreach. For

Bluesky is the new science Twitter, new study by @whysharksmatter.bsky.social and Julia Wester concludes!

"Results show that for every reported professional benefit that scientists once gained from Twitter, scientists can now gain that benefit more effectively on Bluesky than on Twitter."
