The actual cycle of Twitter is that it was exploited by liars and Nazis in 2016 and so the company tightened its moderation rules and then a bunch of people on the right caught up in those rules decided it was biased and that included Musk who bought it and has now automated the Nazi lies.

Justin Rastelli on stage at CascadiaJS
The link preview tutorial I didn't know I needed from @gregle.dev at #CascadiaJS!
Seriously some fantastic tips here, particularly about how to troll Twitter users π
Trump 2017: "It is my pleasure and my honor to announce my nomination of Jerome Powell."
Trump today: "He's a terrible Fed chair. I was surprised he was appointed. I was surprised frankly that Biden put him in and extended him."
Every news story will include both clips, right?
A winding road to Mt. Rainier, with an illustrated portrait of Justin Rastelli. Seattle, WA and Vancouver, BC. Sept 18-19.
What's in your <head>?
Justin Rastelli (@gregle.dev) is coming to #CascadiaJS to give us a quick refresher on the <head> element. π€― Dive into metadata, script, and style tags, and learn to craft platform-specific link previews to control how your site appears across the web π

Breaking News Consumer's Handbook: Protest Edition. 1. TV news will fixate on incidents of violence, even if rare and uncharacteristic of the overall event. 2. Oppontents will try to delegitimize protesters by claiming they are "paid" or otherwise dishonest. This is almost always untrue. 3. Measuing crowd sie is an imprecise, politicized enterprise. Be skeptical of hard numbers: view aerial photos and compare sources. 4. Beware loaded terms such as "riot" and "rebellion." They often reveal the political leanings of the media outlets using them. 5. Crowds at protests are so diverse that the media can tell any story the want. Beware broad conclusions based on extreme people or events. 6. Coverage often considers whether protesters left a mess, or helped clean up ββ a subtle jab or praise. The truth is somewhere in the middle. 7. Protest coverage tends to be episodic, not long-term. Seek out stories that place events in their larger political and historical context. 8. The media will try to tabulate immediate successes and failures of protests. Remember, their impact may not be felt for years.
What points would you add to our Breaking News Consumer's Handbook: Protest Edition from 2018?

A pair of time lapses of the Seattle waterfront. One before the removal of the Alaskan Way Viaduct and one after the completion of the new ocean pavilion. Complete with ambient audio and a little history. π€
