This is all theology, though. James Talarico is a politician. When he says "God is nonbinary" he's speaking metaphorically for a specific purpose. I think the role of a theologian should not be to police the way faithful people talk about their faith, is it?

Peafowl are domesticated and have significant sex dimorphism, which makes them likely to have that kind of naming (see also bull/cow, boar/sow, etc.). Notably, as English-speaking nations have started routinely neutering male cats, we've stopped calling them "tom(cat)s" so frequently.

ROAST BEEF
THE MIDDLE CAT
NOT RAY, NOT PAT
(from Achewood)
My middle name, Cassandra, is a reference to one of my favorite characters from fiction of all time. That being, of course,

(I don't care if people call me "Marcie" or "Marci".)
The only real problem with "Marcy" is that my mom's name is Mary, so our names now look very similar.
(I have several Megans in the family โ Irish, naturally โ so that wasn't an option. And now I have another reason to be glad I didn't pick it)

I read a list of women's names starting with M and the moment I saw "Marceline" I was sure that was it. "Marcy" just fit like a glove. There was a bit of indecision about -y vs -ie but I felt like I picked the right one. And I do have French ancestry as well as Irish (not that it really matters).

I tried "Maura" and liked it but I found quickly it violated rule 3 (people thought it was "Moira", "Mora", "Mara"...). "Maureen" was shaky on rule 2 (multiple people said it felt like a grandma name) and 4 ("Mo" is a cute nickname but not for me). Poked at some other stuff, nothing stuck.

I had criteria:
1. Starts with 'M' (like my deadname)
2. Feels appropriate for a woman of my age, temperament, & cultural background
3. Common enough that I don't have to explain how to spell or pronounce it
4. Ideally has a short but feminine nickname, if long
5. Not a family member or ex's name

I specifically looked up whether my name was popular either this year or around my birth. Unfortunately I didn't notice that it is becoming more popular over the past 5 years (presumably due to Adventure Time viewers having babies) so maybe in 15 years I'll be a middle-aged woman with a tween's name

And probably with Talarico, too, since he's a Presbyterian and a politician, not a Catholic theologian. It's fine.

God resting on the 7th day has been part of worker's rights rhetoric for centuries, though. "God is nonbinary" can mean "God does not have binary gender" rather than "God is a nonbinary person", in much the same way that "God rested" doesn't mean he posted up in the hammock with a wine cooler

Anthropic also just released Claude models with larger context windows (1M, still not as large as the largest possible in Gemini, but good enough for a lot of purposes)

"Nonbinary" and "not binary" mean something different philosophically, but I don't think the difference is something that matters in moral/political rhetoric

The fine but meaningful distinction between "nonbinary" and "not binary"
Although as a matter of moral rhetoric, the distinction doesn't really matter IMO

Broodje haring! I hope to be able to try it someday (I don't think it's possible to get soused herring anywhere near where I live).

Dutch cuisine makes me think the entire country is pregnant. Chocolate sprinkles for breakfast, pickled herring for lunch...
(n.b. this is not a criticism, I love this stuff)
