We are profoundly saddened by the passing of Bertha Purnell, a gun violence survivor, mom, advocate, former Alliance Board Member and peaceful warrior. Illinois has lost a unique voice calling out for justice and peace. Her friendship and wisdom cannot be replaced.
When Sen. Hirono asked Hegseth if he would carry out an order to shoot protestors, he dodged the question.
In addition to the sexual assault allegations, drinking on the job, and ties to white nationalism, Hegseth doesn’t believe in the first amendment.
This is disqualifying.

Before Democrats voted to pass Karina’s Bill in IL tonight, Republicans argued that this law could damage their guns.
Interestingly, they didn’t seem to have the same concern about the lives of women injured or killed by an abusive partner with a firearm.

Survivors and advocates started working on a bill in Illinois to remove guns from domestic abusers when Karina González was still alive.
Karina’s Bill passed in the senate tonight and will pass the house tomorrow.

My little sister is a childhood cancer survivor.
We are well aware that she only survived her diagnosis of Stage 3 Lymphoma because programs like this one funded research to find a cure.
Why are we punishing kids with cancer to appease the whims of a billionaire?
Every American needs to sit with the fact that Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and their cronies cut $190 million in bipartisan cancer research funding to pay for tax cuts for the wealthiest corporations in human history.
The cruelty is the point.

The victims and survivors of the shooting at the Abundant Life Christian School in Madison will carry this trauma for the rest of their lives.
Every elected official who voted against gun violence prevention legislation is complicit. Our children deserve action, not empty thoughts and prayers.
Gun violence is a public health crisis. Full stop.
AND public health prevention frameworks used on other issues (ex: smoking) may not be applicable given the deep historical, racial, and political roots of firearms in this country.

Only in a country that prioritizes profits over lives do doctors recommend people worsen the backlog in the ER with fake symptoms to convince insurance companies to cover lifesaving surgeries.
Our health care system is fundamentally broken.
When my dad was diagnosed with brain cancer, he needed emergency surgery to remove the brain tumor. But our insurance refused to cover the six-figure cost because it “wasn’t necessary.”
The surgeon suggested we go to the ER and *fake headaches* so insurance would cover his lifesaving brain surgery.
The Trump administration will prioritize gun industry profits over our lives. It is critical to support gun violence prevention organizations dedicated to investing in young people to create change.

The organizing team brought young people from across the country to DC to push Congress for an accountability vote on the federal Assault Weapons Ban.
And the communications team helped convey our wins to the press and public.
