Some excellent luck. We managed to score a sofa, two beds, vacuum, and some other household goods from a couple who were letting their apartment go. Also, my husband arranged for movers on short notice.

So sorry that's happening. Maybe encourage them that they can bond over shared activities like cooking together or drawing that don't require a lot of verbal communication.

Observations from Aveiro, Portugal today:
The barber shop had CNN coverage of the war on the TV, and then overheard discussion at the coffee shop, "All they do is destroy everything." Then all the televisions at the burger place had CNN coverage with the focus on Spain's refusal to participate.
One was a farmer and papermill worker and the other was an accountant who survived working in a forced labor camp during WWII.

An intricate octopus cut from a single piece of paper
Japanese artist Masayo Fukuda hand-cut this life-sized octopus from one sheet of paper. Known as Kirie in Japanese (translated as βcut pictureβ), the art form involves cutting intricate forms from a single sheet of white paper and then contrasting it against a black background to reveal the design.
