NEW: An attorney pushing for the executive order that would grant Trump control of federal elections revealed his effort was based on a 2020 conspiracy theory on voting machines:
"Let me tell you that these machines are capable of changing the vote,” he said at a conference of election deniers.
Colorado's governor signaled he may grant clemency to election denier Tina Peters, who’s serving a nine-year state prison sentence for her role in the 2020 election.
The move comes after the state’s top election chief said she should not be pardoned and should continue to be held accountable.
NEW: Trump announced he would replace DHS Secretary Kristi Noem with Oklahoma Sen. Markwayne Mullin on March 31.
The demotion comes after both Democratic and Republican senators showed deep frustration with her department’s leadership during a combative testimony earlier this week.
NEW: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said he would consider dropping his bid for U.S. Senate if Republicans agree to lift the filibuster and pass the SAVE America Act.
In his offering, he called the suppressive measure “the most important bill the U.S. Senate could ever pass.”

Early voting in the redistricting special election begins tomorrow, Friday, March 6 — the election is on April 21.

NEW: In an effort to evade bar ethics investigations, the DOJ proposed a new rule seeking to suspend state ethics proceedings against its attorneys if it conducts its own review first.
One expert called the department's proposal an attempt “to avoid oversight…for their lawlessness.”
