I’d suggest one of the issues here is that AI implementation has not been an organic, bottom-up process. Since 2022, its boosters have been tech titans and media folks who got waaaaay ahead of the demand for this technology and began imposing the features and infrastructure on an unconvinced public.

If GenAI is about increasing profit margins, then I expect the average developer salary, and headcount, to decrease over time.
