The frustration, it has become tiring.

I am "literally booted up a Windows 95 machine yesterday so I could 'reboot in MS-DOS mode'" years old.

Think of all those 'postal scales' this will replace in center consoles, found throughout my 1980s youth.

in a lecture today, learned that \phi in ASL is to make a phi with your two hands. \ddot{\phi^{ctl}_{t}} requires too many hands.

Perhaps we start the β€œLeague of Debuggery” to instill these values in the kids today.

Right? Now - admittedly some systems have certain idiosyncratic ways of presenting their complaints, but come on man- this is first-year stuff that is supposed to grow with you.

I have a question for my teaching friends, especially in the computing universe:

When did students start thinking that error messages are useless?

I just got a Slack from a student saying some code "printed errors and doesn't work." And they are stuck.

Where are they picking up this behavior?

It's hard to go worse than "shitbirding disinformation spreader" yet I'm sure he's up to it.

'Skeptic' and 'proudly intentional ignoramus' are different things entirely.

1908: the Lancet, one of the most respected scientific journals, calls for 18 age limit on reading in bed amidst a moral panic surrounding children becoming "addicted" to novels, which were "designed to keep kids hooked" and destroy their attention/mental health

a contender for my favorite behind-the-scenes photo: The Hunt for Red October crew built their submarine set(s) on top of a hydraulic gimbal, 45 ft above the stage floor, capable of tilting 45 degrees to mimic a sub's movements - Sean Connery said it made him seasick. even the gauges inside worked.

I feel bad for Fenton’s mom on Home Movies, but I can’t help but think this is just a problem that went wildly out of control. She could have done something to stop it, I suppose, but I choose to believe she is living in another hell we never see.

It never ceases to confound me just how many folks think the point of essays is to provide teachers with essays. That teachers just like, collect them, or need them for sustenance or something. Rather than the point of them being the *actual fucking act of learning how to think about shit*
