I was in a 2 hour briefing today on the Iran War. All the briefings are closed, because Trump can't defend this war in public.

I obviously can't disclose classified info, but you deserve to know how incoherent and incomplete these war plans are.

1/ Here's what I can share:

Did Trump just stop one more war, between Greenland and US?

That's nine wars PLUS now! Wen Nobel Peace Prize?

I don't know. And not interested any more :-(

I've decided to build something that will be "farcaster as I wanted it to be". Maybe it never gets to scale, but I don't care, I'll built it. Will shout out when there's something to test.

It's cringe when you hear Epstein's best friend call a country "the hottest" and the "sexiest".

What if the German American Bund had always been there, but like Zacharia said, it was weakened because the US *had* to be open and democratic during the Cold War? Wouldn't this explain this administration's support for nationalistic, authoritarian parties around the world?

I really, really enjoyed this.

But I want to raise an objection/thought. John, you keep saying "they", and tbf, this is the equivalent of a conspiracy theory. What if it's not "them", but it's the Americans?

A friend in Minneapolis just sent me this video. Looks like thousands have come together for a vigil after an ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. This was my neighborhood for several years before coming to Portland.

My father (now 79) is perfectly fine with his old Mac mini running Ubuntu, because it's the first computer he ever had. I've honestly spent less than an hour in the last 10 years to support it. (I should do an apt update, btw).

Linux is not hard. At least, it's not harder than Windows.

Most people that complain "linux is hard", have invested years years if not decades in an other platform, and expect to use linux the same way from day one.

@coolsweng.bsky.social Hi Diomidi!

I've built this new (?) PRNG.

It behaves extremely well (both speed and BigCrush test scores), but it needs proper study to be used in production. I was wondering if you now someone who is interested in studying it.

Playing with Turmites: better than crypto/rand? Can a totally predictable pattern show more entropy than a randomly generated one?

Can a totally predictable pattern show more entropy than a randomly generated one?

This algorithmically generated image seems to have more entropy than images generated with crypto/rand.

I would love to hear from people who have better and deeper understanding of the topic.

Any entropy experts here?

I have an algorithmically generated, 100% reproducible image. 250x250 pixels, with 5 colors.

The calculated Shannon entropy is 2.112490 bits, when 100% randomness would have something close to 2.321928 bits, i.e. 91% uncertainty. (Right?)

Is this something noteworthy?

Say you're in your 20s. You want to build a new thing, called health insurance. You ask your friends, they say it's a good idea, but none of them is willing to pay for it. They are all healthy, why pay for something they don't need vs spend their money on much more fun or interesting things?
