I'm very glad to hear that your depression was helped with acceptance! It's really the hardest step. It's not a completely linear progress with mental or physical health for any of us, but accepting that it is happening at least is a start.

This makes me sad to read. The crayfish comparison is bad & dehumanizing, no doubt, but I think the offence was probably unintended. Actors are expected to be media savvy & word conscious, which is why managers are so important in the internet age. She needs a kind friend to guide her off YouTube 😞
Thank you for the kind words! It really does have an unjustified stigma and I think it keeps people from getting help. That's part of why I decided to be public about my experience despite the reality of being judged for it.
I feel hope again that my mental health can improve because of all this.
I'm sorry to hear that but thank you for sharing that with me! It does help to not feel alone. The 90's mental health care was all about minimizing our inconvenience to adults, not understanding our needs or helping us. They really thought I was 'ADD' because ADHD and Autism were 'boy' conditions 🙄
All this to say, if you feel like you might be going through this struggle, seeking help is worth it. It is a sensory condition that needs your full attention ASAP.
There is help to be had for autistic adults who have hit saturation point one too many times. Don't wait until reaching burn out.
❤️
We've all been done a disservice by the caricatures of autism perpetuated in our media and by unqualified hacks with platforms. I did not see myself in the stereotypes at all.
It would have saved me so much private suffering to know what I was experiencing, and I don't want to be silent about that.
I've been experiencing sensory overload every day of my life & not realizing it. I pushed myself to do so much & let my body absorb the stress of it.
If you, like me, feel your emotions like touching a live wire, you can still be autistic. If you like being social, you can still be autistic.
When I was a preteen in the 90's, a girl, in the south, in private school with no language delays would be unlikely to be diagnosed. I was diagnosed 'ADD' despite (in retrospect) clear indicators of autism.
It would have changed the whole trajectory of my life to have known & to have the right help.
I'm posting this because I did not realize I was autistic. I firmly believed it was impossible for me to be because I am highly emotional and fixate on social cues.
My beliefs about autism have been shaped by bias and stereotypes I could not see myself in, despite a lot of obvious signs.
Finally have an answer for why I haven't been able to function 'normally' despite my physical health gradually improving. I feel like I'm falling apart because of burnout.
Specifically 'Autistic Burnout.'
I've made the decision to get help and started the assessment process so I can improve my QOL.

Buying a bag of squeakers is a solid investment! Guaranteed returns in dopamine lol
Hanging in there- Hope you are doing good & it's good to see you here!
I always love seeing your gorgeous Serenity on my timeline!!
Fantastic! We're on the same wavelength- I did the same for the goose bill on one kigurumi so my spouse can invite people to 'honk' it when he's wearing it 😂 Watching the glee people have when squeezing a surprise squeaker is way more fun that it should be so I bought a bag of them for future stuff

As always, I write these posts with the hope that it can bring down knowledge barriers that keep people from participating in things like cosplay contests, which can be great places to build community and bonds. If you find the post helpful, please consider sharing it with others!

Crawling out of my hidey-hole for a moment to post a guide on my blog I've had in rough draft form for close to a year 😥 Currently trying to stay hopeful that I can live a more normal existence soon. I have some of my balance and mobility back! It just costs a wild amount for all the meds 🫠
A photo of me wearing a Princess Zelda winter outfit cosplay from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I am standing in a field of snow with rocks and trees behind me, arms crossed and making a pouty face because it's heckin cold.

You know what makes your face glow effortlessly and gives you glass skin?
Being kind to retail workers and customer support instead of displacing anger & taking out feelings on strangers!
Used @maridah.com’s vampire cape pattern for my cloak base without the collar.
Agreed ❤️
Yes, I don't think forcing anything is a good idea & being kind to yourself comes first- Taking any sort of action should come out of a need to use built up anger or energy when you have it to spare.
