I don't know what they *have* read (as in, during their whole lives), but they mostly read fantasy, sci-fi and, above all, mangas. I really think this is mostly a "popular culture" thing at the moment. The YA field is the worst, many authors have been harassed and bullied.

…but in a "this is socially irresponsible and maybe a sign of something wrong with the author, which should clarify his/her position publicly" way. This seems both very puritanical and a massive misunderstanding of what art and fiction are about. And I feel it's kinda new. In Europe at least.
