to be clear btw the article i showed in the photo was from a separate local news article bc i dont have the money to read the whole washington post article but the point here is reactionary titles or summaries and how they skew a narrative especially when they know many dont read past a headline.
whole time if u actually read and look into the situation youll find they knew he had a knife, he and his mother called the police for his own safety as a precaution because he was in suicide crisis, and the cops were ‘trained’ to deal w mental health crisis’. he was asking for help bro
its subtle shit like this that paints a narrative like in the case of police violence its trying to skew who is the aggressor and who is the aggrieved from the very get go. the man had a knife, therefore the cops were forced to subdue him, and unfortunately he was fatally wounded. thats the ‘story’
they do this wording shit w minorities especially no matter what. if a white person steals smth the article will be titled “local man steals products from nearby business” if a hispanic or black or any person of color steals smth its “black man robs local business after violently smashing windows”
the police were called to prevent this man from harming himself and they did the job for him.
also it doesnt escape me how articles will always make sure to subtly phrase their titles in a way to skirt blame or try to skew a narrative. fatally shot by WHO? the gun didnt do it itself. “approached officers with a knife” why did he have the knife? what was it for? what was he doing with it?
they shouldve come prepared to talk him down him and if necessary subdue him nonviolently & treated the situation with care. they had the information that he was armed & threatening to hurt himself from the beginning. the police should be tried for assisted suicide and criminal negligence every day
it is ridiculous how often people with disabilities or mental illness or both are called in for a wellness check and the police come brutally overprepared and instead of handling it properly and with care immediately shoot to kill. they knew from the start he was threatening to hurt himself.
this was 10 minutes from my house. disgusting.
