Fun fact: Close-up magic has never been more popular than it is right now. Hereβs why www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...
As @emilypeck.bsky.social reminds me, I've been working on this piece for over 20 years. I like the way it came out! www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
Theyβre the deadliest animal in America!
Gloriously concise and on-point summary from Walt and Kira. Really helps explain why people like @vandehei.bsky.social get so excited about Claude Code and why 99% of the rest of us do not. www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...
And then I guess the government has to tender 25% of the shares repurchased in any buyback? Thatβs how shares become public revenue?
I have to admit this chart surprises me, it's holdings of bitcoin ETFs in bitcoin. I would have expected the recent selling to show up here and it doesn't seem to have done so. dune.com/hildobby/btc...
Household net worth is mostly home equity, right? With a broad index fund on top?
either!
Hive mind: Is the Washington Post in a better or a worse position today than in the alternative universe where the Grahams never sold it?
Itβs related to the βcollege admissions is infinitely harder than it used to be, even bright kids canβt get in anywhereβ meme, which is just statistically false, most colleges are desperate for students

Whatβs the German word meaning βthe choice-regret one feels after breezing through a bunch of easy 5-point questions in Bloombergβs Pointed quiz, knowing that the 30-pointers are going to be much more difficultβ?
Well you see thatβs where youβre wrong.
βWhatβs the weather like?β βItβs freezing / Itβs below freezingβ yes C makes sense.
βWhatβs the weather like?β βItβs boilingβ β C makes no sense at all, itβs not 100 C itβs closer to 1/3 of that
Meanwhile ofc β0 is freezingβ is also very intuitive
In principle I agree but in practice I like the intuitiveness of 70 is nice, 80 is hot, 90 is extreme, 100 is the maximum. And then above 100 is just feck off, thatβs not for humans.
What I really want is for the iOS weather app to show me the temperature in Celsius below 10 degrees C, and then in Fahrenheit above 50 degrees F
Got to go on Slate Money Talks with @felixsalmon.com to talk about my @planetmoney.bsky.social GiveWell episode and ALIMA and the post-USAID world slate.com/podcasts/sla...
