Having formally started my dissertation it is weird to look back and see the seeds of this project in my coursework. It seems both totally alien and deeply connected to those earlier works.

Finished my panel "Haunting and Recovering Media: Analog Pasts, Digital Presents, and Multimedia Futures" about an hour ago. It was a wonderful way to end this MLA which taught me a lot. Happy to present on Brendon Burton's photography, something I have wanted to tackle for a long timr.
Mamdani's Executive Order Number 1, as described in the post.
I was wondering what Mamdani's first executive order would be, and I'm not disappointed by this.
He has wiped off the books EVERY Eric Adams executive order issued on or after September 26, 2024, the day Adams was indicted on federal bribery charges.

I just sorted through 3,041 files in three days.

Reading some of John Burroughs In the Catskills collection tonight. He is of a slightly different orientation than the nature writers I have encountered so far, but is incredibly enjoyable to read. Definitely should get some use out of his work!
Study abroad opportunity!

One of the biggest moments of my career:
USCIS canceled my client’s naturalization oath ceremony. We filed a lawsuit, went to trial, and the judge swore him in right there in the courtroom!
I passed my dissertation proposal defense earlier today! Excited to be writing on fieldwork-based approaches to studying the digital humanities and gothic texts!
Registration is now open for March SSAG Symposium participants using this link: americangothicsociety.com/symposium-re.... Please register (and be an SSAG member in good standing) by February 1st to avoid being dropped from the program.

Accidentally attempted one of the most challenging sections of this trail which I had purposefully tried to avoid and got two miles in before deciding to calling it. Slope for the path seemed too challenging and did not want to risk falling into the ocean. Still got to see some incredible views.
Democrats seem to think the pivoting to the center makes them most electable but all it does it piss *everyone* off.
Having beliefs/a backbone and being authentic is the best way to win elections. People are fucking sick of croneyism and corporate suck ups and that is why Zohran cruised to victory
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
A white woman with chin-length dark hair stands in front of a red wall wearing a black Faculty of Horror t-shirt and black jeans. This was the entrance to the now-closed temporary exhibit, Frankenstein & Dracula: Gothic Monsters/Gothic Science, at the Rosenbach in Philadelphia, PA. The photo is labeled 2025 Loretta Lorance Volunteer Recognition Award and MAPACA. It was shamelessly stolen from the MAPACA instagram.
I'm honored to receive the Loretta Lance award from the Mid-Atlantic Popular & American Culture Association. Thanks to my Disability Studies co-chair, @meredithea.bsky.social who accepted in my absence.
Picture is from a prior MAPACA trip to Philly for the (closed) Frankenstein & Dracula exhibit

I found this gem in a local bookstore.
A roughly drawn chart with large text at the top that says "recognizing ghost types" with a subtitle that says "there are many kinds of ghosts and we can learn about all of them, ok" Then there are several drawings of different ghosts, mostly sheet ghosts of sorts Rude - on a skateboard, flipping the bird Discreet - wearing sunglasses and a hat Long - long Hunk - has handsome chiseled features Forgotten Chores - is looking at a to do list Satan - has horns Pervert - has a giant foot Melting - goop Dad - has a mustache and wrinkles Bird - has a beak and wings Sultry - is laying down with a hand on its head 2 Parter - is cut in two horizontally Freaky - a weird looking one that has arms and legs and giant eyes and a sideways mouth Past Memory - inside a polaroid Floating Head - you can figure this out, it's a severed head Flat - i think you get the idea tiny - very small, this is also self explanatory mouth - mouth video tape - a small ghost coming out of a tape silly - wearing groucho glasses and has a fake arrow through head headband And a big one in the center labeled "normal style"
Let's Learn about types of ghosts
Just submitted an application for my first ACLS fellowship. This feels surreal.
As C.L. Nolan said: “We must acknowledge there are places where the land growls.”
I need to put that Gordon Lightfoot's "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" inspired one of my dissertation chapters somewhere in the body.
