With X getting DDOS'ed I thought that was a great time to promote Bluesky, but it was also down....data ownership is great, but data decentralisation is useless when the UI is centralised.

Like Coffeezilla, I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry. Please stop buying meme coins.
I guess the fact Iβve gone out my way to learn these algorithms shows dedication I suppose!
Day 1 of interview preparation - It's the first time in 15 years of programming I've had to traverse a binary tree. Is #LeetCode really an effective measure of an engineers value?
The black checkbox is a CSS bug for dark mode users which I can fix. As for the functionality, it hides the news and politics category on YouTube so it relies on correct categorization there.
The annoying answer is "how long's a piece of string?". Depends on what you want building. The only thing I can tell you with any certainty is that the skillset you likely require is currently in low demand - so rates are significantly cheaper than they have been. Good luck!
What would you like to search for that you canβt already search for on Bluesky itself?
I added a filter to hide politics. It blocks YouTube category 25 (News & Politicis) from displaying on the front page. It still lets some leak through though bluetube.fyi?hidePolitics...
I added some of the most popular YouTube categories that Bluesky users seem to post as filters bluetube.fyi - Hopefully you can find something more relevant!
After all these years of using @supabase.com free tier for tinkering I finally had to upgrade my plan immediately after releasing bluetube.fyi.
Bluesky users post a lot of YouTube videos.
I've started archiving the top 3 trending videos over at bsky.app/profile/blue.... This way you can get the the most popular videos into your Bluesky feeds - just the way you like it!
I think the best I can do is add language filters based on either the Bluesky language or YouTube video language. Not quite the same but might be worthwhile.
I've started archiving the trending videos here, for now. I think this is a good way to get trending videos into your Bluesky feeds bsky.app/profile/blue...
Yeah, I started accumulating that data yesterday. The YouTube data API has it. I've enough to let you filter by Youtube category which I will add this week!
Absolutely something I plan on doing. I'd like to keep as much on platform as possible!
I'd love to block politics from my life! However I don't think its trivial to use labellers in this context given how I'm consuming and displaying the data from the firehose from my own DB. I'd have to read more about them.
Thank for sharing my post! I totally agree however I feel this way about all social media. Its exhausting.
I was considering this before I did the BlueTube idea but decided against it for forgotten reasons. Do you envisage it using Bluesky data (image embeds) or a new lexicon? I think I had analysis paralysis here and stopped.
I added some much needed features today to bluetube.fyi - Pagination, sorting and related videos.
The related videos is an experiment. It will suggest the other video posts from the Bluesky users that have also shared the one you're viewing. It's an interesting mix! #ATProtocol #Bluesky #YouTube
Thanks! I would love to but it's a mess. Once I've tidied it up definitely :)
Absolutely. YouTube was the richest amount of data to aggregate though. I tired other platforms where the data was thin so there were never very many "duplicate" posts to aggregate.
Definitely thinking about this. The only issue is when you narrow down your criteria, the data is thin so the "top" videos in your niche might only have been shared a few times so is not really the hottest, but probably "the only". I will absolutely explore what I can do though.
Thanks! It's based on total post count followed by total like count. It includes posts and reposts - but is distinct per user who (re)posts it. I plan to add sort by likes vs posts functionality and also iron out minor issues with like counts on some videos.
I spent this week building bluetube.fyi using the Bluesky firehose to aggregate YouTube videos. I have plans to layer on more discovery features and more content providers - please let me know your thoughts!
Great read! I built bluetube.fyi this week which aggregates Bluesky YouTube content similar to what you were suggesting. I was planning on layering on more features and media providers, Spotify included! I'd love to see what you build!
You can see the data on your PDS here atproto-browser.vercel.app/at/alex.barc.... I'm still working out how the PDS works exactly.
I've spent $1.67 this month to run my PDS.
Testing how long this takes to come through the firehose! Sent at 14:32.
