After reading some academic works and re-reading some of the most iconic works I think the best moment is actually during travel.

Travel is meaningful when it's both external and internal.

All this to say, to a big part of the world -and not just Argentina- this is seen as an insult. And a real shame, I was a user of Inkarnate once.

In 1983 the newly birthed democracy upheld its claim on the islands, and since then it has achieved many UN resolutions. The Argentine claim is supported by the whole of Latin America (who want colonial foreign powers out of the continent) and Spain (because Gibraltar is also occupied).

Before the 1982 war there were even plans to hand over the islands, which were deemed unimportant by the UK back then.

In 1982, our murderous dictatorship (which disappeared 30k argentines), in a last-ditch attempt to retain power, reclaimed the islands by force. Then, we lost the war.

The islands were first settled by the French, then bought by Spain. The fledgling Argentina even founded a town and installed a governor. In 1833 they were forcibly taken by the British Empire. The population was removed and UK settlers sent in. Since then, Argentina has never renounced its claim.

Inkarnate, one of the top mapping tools, got away with posting a map of the islands we in Argentina (and Latin America, and Spain) call the Malvinas using their British occupiers' names.

The 250+ comments, almost 99% by people from Argentina and Latam calling them out, didn't matter.

I just reached a new academic burnout phase:
(a)"I'm a failure if I do this essay half-assedly"
(b)"I'm a failure if I don't do it and fail this yearly course".
It's probably going to end in a coffee-fueled writing spree, with ocassional bursts of crying.
Extremely humbling, to say the least.

There's a scene with music from Mercedes Sosa that had me in tears, I will not spoil it yet, but I think it shows the essence of the film and what a collective hero, the role of faith and community, really mean.

Its main star is Ricardo Darín, of "The Secret in their Eyes" fame, the Argentine Academy Award winning film for best foreign film.

But it also showcases a lot of Argentine music and culture. Oh, and one of its most pivotal scenes is just two streets away from our TTRPG club.

Watch The Eternaut on Netflix, a masterpiece of sci-fi centered on the idea that "nobody saves themselves alone" and that the hero is always a collective hero.

The writer of the comic that inspired it was disappeared by the Argentine dictatorship, and the comic itself was banned.

The Rotten Tomatoes score for ‘THE ETERNAUT’ has increased to 93%.

Now streaming on Netflix.
