Black and white portrait of a newly engaged young couple, with blurred background and backlighting. Image shows the man hugging the woman from behind, waist up, smiling with closed lips, eye contact with camera.
Thought I'd post some of my past engagement portrait work.
Nikon D3, 85mm f1.4 lens at f2.5, backlight with reflector fill. If I were to shoot it again today, I'd use my current 135mm lens to blur the background a bit more.

Black and white photograph of a girl on a landline phone sitting at a table with a cat in front of her patiently listening and waiting for her to finish the call.

haha, saw that in the mirror this morning. ๐
Color photograph of of a sunrise/sunset over a scenic lake where the sun rays are breaking through a gap in heavy clouds.
Good morning fellow photographers.

Black and white photograph of many black birds perched on crisscrossing telephone/power lines, with a blown out sky in the background.
Just another from the bird-on-a-wire series from the other day. This one shows closer to what I saw in my mind while shooting than the color version does.

Nikon Zf, 135mm lens
Color photograph of a multitude of birds resting on crisscrossing powerlines over a busy intersection.
Birds on 9 Wires
This was over a very busy intersection the other day. It's almost like the birds enjoy the busyness of the traffic.

I ended up behind this tow truck at a red light today, and something about its shape started to feel almost figurative the longer I looked at it. Iโve noticed most simple tow trucks share this same basic configuration.

I rarely make new year resolutions, but I really want to for 2026. So here goes:
-- Make (more) eye-contact with strangers when I'm out and about; say hi! ๐
-- I tend to be shy, so: Use my camera (more often) to break the ice and interact meaningfully.
Let's all prosper in 2026! ๐๐ช
haha, the owl's definitely got that Gary Coleman expression. ๐
Color photograph of a lake scene a little while after the sun sets in the horizon.
After the sun sets.

Photograph of a palm tree at sunset. Camera motion and a slow shutter speed serve to blur elements in the image, causing a stormy effect.
Palm in Falling Light
Whenever I shoot a series of ICM's, I try to be really picky about which ones work for me, since very few end up being worthy of viewing more than once. For some reason this one keeps jumping back up from the culling/editing floor. ๐

Insightful observation, thank you Jia. ๐
๐๐ Beautiful outdoor tables. ๐
Wow Linda, I can't believe you knew it was mine. But I like that you did. ๐
A palm tree rendered in swirling motion blur created by intentional camera movement, its fronds bending into abstract, wave-like patterns against a pale sky. Warm light streaks across the bottom of the frame. Shot on a Nikon Zf with a 135mm lens at f/10, 1/15 sec.
Dancing Palm
During another visit to the park, I was just playing around with the scenes around me, this one being a palm tree in the backlight of a fading sunset. I used a low shutter speed while moving the camera around.

Happy birthday, Linda. ๐
Thank you, Jean. ๐
A black-and-white photograph of a hospital room. A wheeled over-bed table sits in the center with cups, bottles, and small containers on top. Strong sunlight passes through window blinds, creating a sharp triangular patch of striped light on the wall. The objects on the table cast long shadows into the lit area. Part of a hospital bed is visible on the right side of the frame.

You caught some beautiful light here. ๐ท
Likewise Giles.
However, my knees don't like long runs anymore, so had to replace it with table tennis. Interestingly enough, TT also supplies plenty of photo opps itself, which I may post at some point.
That said, I'll watch for your next run-shots. ๐ท๐
What a great way to take pictures, Giles. I used to run long distance, so I can relate to what you're doing here. Nice set of images. ๐
Thanks Michelle, I like that you can relate. ๐ ๐
Close-up of a parking lot stripe with a bold crack running through the white paint. The dark asphalt above and a darker band below frame the horizontal stripe. Fine branching cracks spread to the right, while a thicker vertical crack forms a rough, human-like shape in the center. The image emphasizes textures and patterns in the worn pavement.
Asphalt athlete.
Saw this athlete in the 7-11 parking lot the other day.

Full-screen version just to see it bigger.
Thank you, Peaches. ๐
Color photograph of an interesting cloud formation in the evening sky.
I'm not usually into cloud shots, but this evening's sky caught my interest for just a few seconds before the scene shifted and faded.

Same! ๐
Color photograph of a line of cars on-ramping to the interstate at sunset, with deep orange sky and clouds.
Thanksgiving traffic on my way home tonight. This is the on-ramp to interstate 95 in my area. Going 30 mph all the way home was oddly very relaxing. ๐
