I had this issue forever and it drove me crazy. Was introduced after some update in 2024 or so and then went away sometime last year for me (without any registry hacks). Really frustrating.

i've been working on Aaron Copland's 1930 masterpiece, the Piano Variations (imagine Appalachian Spring without the tonality) and there's something about rugged, granitic, sparse, yet beautiful texture that's really captivating.

if you're looking to work off anger about the political situation, may i recommend to you modernist art in all its forms: music, literature, visual art, whatever.

and you'll realize that people 100 years ago were grappling with the same crap we're dealing with now.

the moment when i stopped gunning for first chair and just locked into being a rock-solid second orchestral trumpet player was a great one for me and an important stage in my development as a musician

somehow this story is actually way, way worse than the headline. heads should be rolling over this, but our mayor will probably do absolutely nothing.

one of the β€œfunβ€œ parts about going to DC these days is wondering whether the white dudes in suits walking around near the Hill are fascist operatives or just regular workers.

The intellectually consistent position on this is that everyone should have to show ID & everyone should be issued national ID cards at no/minimal cost & everyone should then be automatically registered to vote & we should be done with any & all discussions about restricting suffrage & voter fraud.

NFC East As US Politics:

Eagles: Far left. Angry when they lose, even angrier when they win.
Giants: Democrats. Consider selves superior, mostly shat on, reminisce about lucky glory days
Commanders: Never-Trump Republicans. Took 'em a while, but they stopped using racial slurs.
Cowboys: MAGA

@somevelvetblog.bsky.social loved hearing Sonny Clark’s Deep in a Dream on Sleepy Hollow this morning. always nice to hear the criminally underrated Ike Quebec on the tenor sax!

this was a fun article to edit.

it's a valuable exercise for historians as well. Lorraine Daston used to do something similar at the first meeting of the year in her department at the @mpiwg.bsky.social. you had 5 minutes (and one slide) to give an overview of your research project. not easy!

also, Rocky is a great movie but it's just tacky as hell to have a statue of a fictional character at the top of the steps of the city's premier art museum.

Dan McQuade, 1983–2026 | Defector Dan McQuade, our friend and colleague, died this week at the age of 43. He is survived by his wife and young son. At the end of 2024, Dan was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer. The news of his diag...

Today, everybody seems to talk about Philly culture, but Dan McQuade was setting the standard when I came here 19 years ago & nobody will ever do it better. He understood this city & its strange sense of humor so well that his tweets alone would inspire our stories 1/4

That’s great to hear, but it feels like the plowing of the side streets is happening completely randomly…in my neighborhood the bobcats were out two days ago but they hit about half of the little streets. No rhyme or reason…

damn, this is just so tragic. never met Dan, but living in Philly and as a Deadspin/Defector super fan, I felt like I did. his writing was so personal and he seemed like such a sweet guy. this year really sucks.
