A yellow sign with black writing which reads Herefordshire rural watch with a pictogram of a black scarecrow with yellow eyes and a crow on its hat.
The sign is on a wooden fence with a churchyard and blue sky just visible behind it

There's other stuff to worry about; but I've just had advance copies of The Tattooed Hills, and it's a handsome thing.

Preorders etc via my bio or in bookshops.

Fine work @quartobooksuk.bsky.social

People have been very kind about The Tattooed Hills, out in April, not least the excellent @grindrod.bsky.social , whose book Tales of the Suburbs should be on everyone's reading list.

Link to preorder The Tattooed Hills in my bio.

And following some digging by the brilliant @jamiembrixton.bsky.social have yourselves a Velvet Underground meets mid-period Tom Waits-ish song based on Hardy's poem The Shadow on the Stone. frankhudson.org/2021/11/05/t...

Scroll down to the song, it's worth it.

Yes, he's always haunted by after-life mingling and separation. His body in Westminster, heart in Dorset, whether eaten by a cat or not.

All the fault of the railway. Sir John Soane's here too, in a typically understated tomb. The interior of the church is quite the surprise too.

Finally, prompted by a recent post by @lordbonkers.bsky.social I took some time today to see the grisly spectacle of the graves around the now felled 'Hardy Tree' that had little to do with Hardy, in St Pancras churchyard, and also the tomb of Mary Wolstonecraft, though her body is absent.

They've completely nailed it. I'm reading the audiobook this week and just finished the chapter which includes Alton Barnes.

Had it been on offer, than absolutely agree. Sadly, it was all for show, or maybe what producers need to get through several hours of my voice.

Am very much enjoying the chutzpah of the studio where I'm recording my audiobook. Spot the bit when I got stuck in.
