I think if there was a mobile app that could do a lot of these things, then it could catch on as homegrown hit, but only as a desktop app, it's hard to attract the masses

YouTube Music would be an interesting buyer because in the end, most music is available there and could lure people away from AM and S once they see that in practice. Amazon could also use more visiblity and put them next to other services could do that

It's an interesting conversation topic. In my mind, it boils down to who needs broad compatibly. Apple and Spoitify don't really need openness, even the plugin apporach wouldn't benefit them enough to justify the work. So, are there enough people independently looking for this solution?
