This war is more a manifestation of a personality disorder than any coherent strategy. You knew that, but @edwardluce.bsky.social frames it well and persuasively in his latest excellent column.

Our interstellar visitor, 3I/ATLAS, is just about to have its last spacecraft encounter, next week with the Juno spacecraft. and I thought people might like to see how it is fading out, with its brightness more or less following the models we fit in late December.

Dates of New Moons will likely become important. The next New Moon is March 18 9:23 pm EDT.

Of course, the IRGC undoubtedly owns night scopes as well.

like, the IRGC owns binoculars. they can see a ship the size of the empire state building crossing the strait. turning the transponder off isn't an invisibility cloak

Price of oil over the last week, spiking then mostly coming back down

Price of oil over the last week, spiking then mostly coming back down

Oil price spiked then mostly went back down.

One of the weirder market moves I've seen. Big supply crunch makes price rise, then with the supply crunch continuing unabated falls back to close to where it was.

steady demand + supply crunch = price rise

Or at least that's how it's supposed to work.

Nothing official as yet, but it appears that the Bahrain government has fallen, with the King fleeing the country.

Bahrain is a majority Shia country with an unpopular Sunni King kept in power by Saudi Arabian tanks since March 14, 2011. The IRI has removed that check.

I am going to be extremely upset if the major outcome of this dumb war against Iran is to collapse the one fragile mostly-kinda-democracy (with big, significant problems, to be clear) we managed to create in the Middle East.

That is a concentrated blast of foolishness (no surprise, given the source), but at the core of it is the failure to realize that just because your opponent is losing in war does not mean that you are winning and it certainly doesn't mean that you will win.

Such a good point, but they're undershooting it. People are going to LOVE Zoom-only graduations, can't wait

Hormuz never closed for Chinese, Russian, Pakistani and (of course) Iranian ships.

It is still closed for everyone else.

I believe a Chinese convey left recently. I don't know if that included any Chinese friends.

Humanity heating planet faster than ever before, study finds Researchers identify sharp rise to about 0.35C every decade, after excluding natural fluctuations such as El NiΓ±o

It doesn’t matter whether the rate of global warming is increasing. It’ll never cease to amaze me that people don’t care that it’s happening at all. It should be the most alarming thing ever.

07.03.2026 10:34 πŸ‘ 4261 πŸ” 1648 πŸ’¬ 67 πŸ“Œ 122

It does matter.

At this increased rate of warming it means 2.5C above 1850 levels arrives by 2039 - that’s less than 14 years from now. Not 2100.

That’s an incredibly destructive climate to try and grow food in and live in.

Only 14 years away.

Want to say FU to Musk and save worldwide skies from two supervillain plans to disfigure them?

SpaceX wants to launch a million sats. Reflect Orbital wants to provide "sunlight on demand" using huge space mirrors.

Step-by-step how-to for FCC comments. Takes 15 min:
