For some reason, I have a lot of Lenny Dykstra baseball cards. I think God had a plan for me to live in Philly some day.

Living the car-free dream in Philly. Philly public school parent. Brompton Bicycles are the ultimate urban life hack. I only really care about Philly issues; it’s not my job to provide context to my posts for non-Philly folks.

Now with artwork! We'll be tabling at Join Philly's Activity Fair on Sat Apr 12, 2026, 11a-3p at the Philadelphia Ethical Society. Stop by to say hi and find a new hobby www.joinphilly.com/events/2026-...
I'm going in a few weeks. Happy to pick stuff up for people in Philly. I got my favorite mug from there a few years ago!
One of my favorite stores in the world is the Spacing Store in Toronto. I don't know why every city doesn't have a store like it. It's not just a city-specific gift shop--it's an *urbanist* gift shop that celebrates buses, trains, bikes, density, and local culture.

Conservatives used to talk about how important energy independence is but even though we have the technology to wean ourselves off of fossil fuels, we’d rather engage in war and kidnap foreign leaders to maintain our oil dependency.
It is a systemic issue, but a lot of folks that are hurting because of the gas prices took an implicit bargain: you can have a big, new house in the sunbelt and live an air conditioned, cheap existence out of community with others. You just gotta accept that you just keep burning dino juice forever
I used to think there’s no way I could survive without Amazon Prime. But I’ve been able to significantly decrease my Amazon spending by not having it.
It’s hard trying to convince normal people not to shop at Amazon though bc it is super convenient.
Love seeing so many cops pulling over drivers today. 😂
Drops of God on Apple TV is probably generating millions of dollars of wine sales for Georgian wine producers.
Orange wine!
I didn’t realize there was such a big difference in selection of products across different Fine Wine and Good Spirits locations.
Apparently the one at 11th and Chestnut has more Georgian wines than others. Going to check it out.
I was admitted to the Univ of Illinois engineering program which would’ve been the logical choice but I wanted to get out of my Chicago/Illinois bubble so I went to school in Ohio.
I’m glad I did because I think it became my gateway to the Northeast which is where I’ve lived all my adult life.
I wish public universities were federally subsidized so there aren’t separate in-state vs out-of-state tuitions.
I’m a strong believer in college being a time when kids become adults and get to know people who grew up in different places. Strong in-state tuition subsidies discourage that.
A lot of Big 10 schools fall in this sweet spot of being cheaper than the $100k/yr private schools, yet offer a potentially appealing alternative to in-state options. Illinois, Wisconsin, Purdue, Minnesota, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan State, Washington, etc.
For example, I'm getting a lot of email from Univ of Minnesota. It's ranked higher than Pitt and Temple. It's located right in the heart of Minneapolis, one of my favorite cities. Is it worth 2x the price of Pitt, Temple or Penn State? For kids who want to get away from home, maybe?
It's smart for some of the upper-middle tier public universities to go after out-of-state students. They're appealing because they often rank higher than the target applicant's in-state option, they're cheaper than private universities, and they can charge higher tuition than in-state students.
It's interesting getting all this college spam for my 15yo son. The small liberal arts college have to work so hard to drive interest; if they don't, most of them would just die off.
It's also interesting to see which public universities are pushing really hard to get out-of-state students.
It’s missing my first two systems, the Odyssey 2 and Sega Master System!
I love that baseball is back. And it’s the WBC too!
Advancements in computing performance/price outpaced the demand for it. Until AI came around.
Especially on Apple devices, the new Silicon chips are so fast, I had no reason to upgrade any time soon. But now that software is forcing AI on us, it's making our computers feel slow and bloated again.
It's wild that Apple's new budget laptop, the MacBook Neo, which uses the same chip as an iPhone 16 Pro, is faster than an M1 MacBook Air.
My wife has the M1 MacBook Air and it doesn't feel slow at all. My MacBook Pro with an M1 Pro is still going strong too. www.macrumors.com/2026/03/05/m...
I love that my 8th grader is learning about the em dash in English class right now. Gives me more faith in the Philly public schools!
And they’re off!! 800 seed bombs loaded up with native seeds coming to an abandoned lot near you 😘
60 riders showed up on a damp, cool March night to scatter native plant seeds across our city. I can't wait to see flowers along our route this summer. Thanks to @sarahmackattack.bsky.social for leading this amazing native plants project and for the seed bombs! And to our volunteers and riders
Tonight! Join us. Sow native plant seeds.
The War on Cars event is in May, not March! So I think we’ll be fine!
My church is hosting The War on Cars event in Philly! Christian urbanism is a thing and I’m so excited about this.
To lose weight, I’m trying to forgo lunch. We’ll see how this goes.
I’ll allow myself to eat fruit or other healthy snacks instead though.

Mar 4 // Thrilled to collaborate with @sarahmackattack.bsky.social (artist, science communicator extraordinaire & "Philly's favorite squid scientist"): our ride is 1 part of her huge effort to sow native plant seeds across our city to restore native species & create habitat for local creatures.
