While I definitely appreciate what you're doing, I've often found that people who continue to post on Substack can be sensitive to being called out and may end up blocking you (or the labeler, which does absolutely nothing to prevent them being labeled)

Why are you still supporting Substack?

At the bottom of the Substack settings page, under "Danger Zone," you can turn off all subscriptions at once.
Apologies to all my friends on Substack. I'd gritted my teeth and supported you because I love your work. But Substack's partnership with Polymarket is the last straw for me.
The jetstream1 us east endpoint is not working at the moment so that may have been it
It probably would be a good idea to set up monitoring and alerts for something like number of labels emitted so that if it's been several minutes without any labels, I receive notice of a problem. So that may be my weekend project, if I feel up to it.
Basically the labeler was trying for several hours to connect to a jetstream that was down so it wasn't able to label any posts and I didn't have it set up to try connecting to a different jetstream instance, but also the labeler itself wasn't down so it didn't ping me that there was a problem.
Okay! So looks like the jetstream instance I was using has been having issues. I have updated the labeler code to detect jetstream timeouts and switch jetstream instances. This obviously won't matter if all jetstreams are down but in this case only one seems to be having a problem so...

Everything is still working but the dev doesn't have plans to continue maintaining it. There are some people in the bluesky api touchers discord who can help if you have issues though!
I'm still getting timeout and 503 errors trying to connect to jetstream1.us-east.bsky.network

FYI having some trouble with the jetstream/firehose timing out constantly since last night. No idea why and trying to troubleshoot.
Currently no as the labeler is fully automated and doesn't run Ozone (bluesky's labeling service) but since I'm currently snowbound I might muck around with trying to implement manual labeling.

I don't post on Substack because I already have my own site where I post stuff, and have done for 27 years, and because Substack makes a lot of money off Nazis and fascists and I'd really rather not, thanks. I do have an account there but it's to secure my name. It has a cat photo.

Can I just say, I'm really loving Ghost. It is such a good platform. Anyone still using Substack should consider moving across. It is pay to play, and it's a different way of working, but the functionality is great and it's so much nicer to use.

you know you can have that flagged in advance for you, right? even works on the custom domains you wouldn’t catch.

I do not, but if you notice any posts that have managed to slip past, please tag me so I can figure out why! The labeler is fully automated and I find it tends to be very reliable.
Again, no serious organization, politician, or journalist should join Substack in 2026.
I'll give grace to those who were on Substack in its early, pre-mask-off days and those who don't already have a platform, but the best time to leave the Nazi bar was yesterday and the second-best time is now.

I will never read your substack. I will not share your substack. if you post your substack and I am just learning you have a substack, I will comment, “substack? really?” or “come on, man” or “leave substack.” I will do this periodically until you block me or leave substack
I'll add another reason to @damon.kiesow.net's list of why people stick with Substack: They are constantly being told, "Don't use this, don't use that." Get off Xitter! Boycott Amazon! Meta's platforms are kind of dubious! At a certain point, folks just tune out. (Note: I'm not on Substack.)
