Adamβs essential case of 2024.
As is now tradition, Adam @adamhwells.bsky.social shares his annual list of favourite ciders and perries. But what were yours?
Discovering Viez: The Mosel-Franconian Cider Culture of Western Germany.
In this long read, Barry @barmas.bsky.social explores the Viez cider tradition that runs from the city of Trier in the Moselle down into the Saarland, meeting the Viez Brotherhood on the way.
Sadly the wonderful champion of aspirational cider Fierce Bar NQ Manchester closes next week
We are now in search of another Manchester venue who will host our monthly Cider Club meetings
Please send suggestions
Amazing to welcome James Marsden of Greggs Pit to @manchestercider.bsky.social
More than 30 enthusiasts in attendance to listen to a cider and perry legend and taste some wonderful drinks
Tom Oliver collaborations and Small Bar tasting.
Making hybrid drinks with Tom Oliver has become a cornerstone of our annual production. We're continually delighted to be able to create beer/cider/perry co-fermentations with Tom. Each season, the question beckons, "What shall we do this year?".
Really sad to hear that Fierce Bar Manchester is to close at the end of December
It has been a wonderful venue for the monthly Manchester Cider Club

The Yarlington Mill is excellent, we had it when Balance came to Funk Club @thatbeerplace.co.uk just enough peatiness to not overpower the spice and red apple
Both new ciders @balancebrew.bsky.social are now available from the Cat in the Glass webshop

Super range of cider and perry: draught sparkling & still, by the glass and sharing bottles
Manchester Cider Club this month is in person at Fierce Bar NQ, 57 Thomas St, M4 1NA. This will be on Thursday 12th December from 6pm with James Marsden from Gregg's Pit! [Please note the early start!]
So sad not to be able to attend in person but overjoyed that Perry: A Drinkerβs Guide won the Susanna Forbes Award for Communication about Cider at @britbeerwriters.bsky.social last night. A privilege, and amazing for perry to get recognition from a competition of this standing. Thanks so much.
Delighted to have won the Corporate Commβs category for my work on CAMRA Learn and Discover, CAMRAβs online learning platform for anyone wanting to learn more about #beer, #cider, #perry and #pubs. It features videos, audio content, articles and guides tailored for all knowledge levels.
A trophy in shape of a tankard, and a certificate for the Susanna Forbes Award for Best Communication about Cider winner, Adam Wells
On behalf of our group of contributors, congratulations to co-founder @adamhwells.bsky.social for winning the so well deserved @britbeerwriters.bsky.social Susanna Forbes Award for Best Communication about Cider, for Perry: A Drinkerβs Guide. Such a remarkable book, we had no doubt!
Keg-conditioned cider has been absolutely essential to us, crow-barring open a latent demand for good cider. By giving (i.e. forcing) samples to customers (along with a well trained team) it's helped us grow cider sales more than three-fold.
Good to see a shout out to Pom (who, incidentally, will be at Gladwellsβ Christmas market in Camberwell this Saturday if you want to sample their cider).
βCiders that ripple with texture and character; that billow and swell with their joyous fullness; that allow themselves, at last, to be wholly known.β Another wonderful #cider feature from the @ciderreview.bsky.socialβs inimitable Adam Wells in @pelliclemag.com
Iβm immensely grateful to CAMRA for providing the opportunity of this role. Genuinely proud to bring a win for the team alongside all the wins last night for CAMRA contributors and authors. It was a great night @britbeerwriters.bsky.social awards.
This is a great piece of observation by Adam on the opportunities for keg conditioned cider. Breaking into the draught market will be one of low intervention ciders greatest challenges.
Over the moon that @feralfruits.bsky.social takes the Gold Award on behalf of CAMRA Learn and Discover - he has done so much for education and encouraging writers about cider and perry
Wonderful tribute to Susanna Forbes @littlepomona.bsky.social and wonderful that @adamhwells.bsky.social takes the @britbeerwriters.bsky.social Gold Award and Jane Peyton takes the Silver Award for Cider and Perry Writing
At this yearβs British Guild of Beer Writers awards, the winner of the cider category will be presented with the Susanna Forbes Award for Best Communication about Cider.

Still getting joy from drinking cider and perry ... the excitement of a new producer & the drinks are clean & interesting ... big smile for something new from a trusted producer ... and the buzz from rediscovering a gem & a hidden / forgotten bottle
As promised, a thought provoking and florid piece by Adam Wells all about keg-conditioned cider and its special, delicious qualities π
