yeah or even in line! making a small comment to lay the foundation for subsequent interactions is huge!

(partially joking but this is actually how i became friends with everyone)
as someone who now has a friend group at my local coffee shop, i recommend crashing out and bonding over the human experience
Pleased to announce many excellent new additions to my archive of procedural single-stroke fonts for #p5js and #plotterArt โ including ISO-3098; two kanji/hanzi fonts, each with 4K+ glyphs; Licia He's new DearPlotter font; and Jongmin Kim's variable LeonSans stroke font: github.com/golanlevin/p...

fwiw i value both of you individually but iโm bad at DMs ๐ฅน
i blame the maker for that one ๐ค
tbh me: robots are fren too
i disagree with the nefarious interpretation of โyou can just do thingsโ but anyone can build their own atmosphere legos and have meaningful traction. i think thatโs pretty cool.
(iโm not able to see the root post for this for some reason) but imo the openness / gossip component. you could take an approach like buf and publish all your schemas on a registry but that initial friction is sometimes sufficient to deter a team from building.
less bias and more so a gap in design education. design ops does many things but one of the things they are great for is upskilling a design team on these fronts, especially when design rigor is something design teams have to fight uphill for.
some examples: why JTBD and personas together? when you say % increase or decrease, was it statistically significant? did you push for clarification when a participant in a contextual inquiry stated something or did you pattern match to one of your pre-curated design solutions?
maybe UX research isnโt something leadership wants to sink money into but a design team wants to strengthen their design rationale.
as a result, there might be hints at UX research but iโve been in situations where a research plan is curated poorly or thereโs mishandled stats.
heh yeah we have some! a more contrived example is minimizing number of clicks for which the intended heuristic is meaningful wayfinding (can be solved for by command + k anyway).
i think folks enter these discussions with good intent but inevitably end up arguing with limited context.
for the a11y benefits with, ex: react-aria, i still consider usage of some baseline stronger since a11y is typically such an afterthought. yeah linting and storybook plugins but they also miss quite a bit in practice.
yeah shadcn (and any others tbh) effectively elevates the bottom line but because most teams are detached from the context in which they are designed, it makes it challenging to critically assess and pinpoint gaps in a given design pattern and / or component API for a given use case.
re: the UX research q, iโm not sure i understand - can you clarify? ๐
idt shadcn itself is the issue but more so that teams use it as a forcing function to veto exploration, whereas a design system is always in flex and should simultaneously afford frontend teams eng velocity, reassessing pattern fit, and primitives to prototype quickly when a pattern is insufficient
i think some of this has to do with the misguided crusade in the name of design systems but outside of tools for thought and related movements, it feels like UI/UX design is collapsing in on itself and with amateur practitioners unintentionally weaponizing UX research for the wrong outcomes
tbh i think my gripe is with the larger ecosystem and not atp specifically but browser company felt like one of the more major deviations from the shadcn-ification of UI.
what if atproto is destined for the same fate as all b2b saas apps
