Today a coalition of music organisations representing many thousands of artists and music workers has published a letter to BBC Radio Scotland.

Scotland’s music sector needs transparency, consultation and a clear strategy for how Scottish music will be supported.

Still processing those two lovely gigs over the weekend. Tolbooth Stirling and Cottiers, it was a pleasure to be back in these special venues and play some of our songs. Thank you to everyone who came out.

The end of February was marked by a gorgeous night at the Tolbooth in Stirling seeing @constantfollower.bsky.social. I'm still gathering my thoughts but it was a beautiful set from them and also from the lovely Lizabett Russu.

Where would 75% of Scottish bands you like be now if late-night BBC Radio Scotland radio they say they were first played in didn’t exist?

The BBC's decision today is affecting Scotland’s music tomorrow.

BBC Scotland Dir Hayley Valentine evidence Scottish Parliament CEEAC committee about the "small number of people unhappy" about BBCRadioScot cuts. 16000 signed a petition for a single show - the biggest since the BBC Bias petition during the referendum (the most divisive moment in recent history).

Creative communities form around a nucleus. A late-night BBC Radio Scotland play by Roddy Hart led to the funding for my first album. 41 people were paid for various jobs in the making.

The creative economy in Scotland needs these music discovery spaces. This is what we lose.

Is Vernon Kay worth more to the BBC than the future of Scottish music? That can’t be right? Can it?

Vernon gets £394k (BBC Pay List 24/25)
Mon-Fri ‘Up Late’ show £175k (BBC ITT)
Roddy’s weekend show? Say same as the 'Up Late' budget £175k

75.3% of the 243 professional Scottish artists that signed the Open Letter to BBC Scotland said that BBC Radio Scot's late-night radio spaces gave them their first radio play. Cutting that pipeline is removing the opportunity for young Scottish musicians to be heard.

BBC Scotland Director Hayley Valentine's remarkable evidence to our MSPs at Scottish Parliament CEEAC re BBC Radio Scot cuts.

75.3% of the 243 musicians who signed the Open Letter to the BBC said they received their first/early play on BBC Radio Scotland late-night. Where will that happen now?

Good piece by Mike Small in @bellacaledonia.bsky.social this morning on the collapse of new music support at BBC Radio Scotland and the questionable evidence by BBC Scotland's Hayley Valentine to the Scottish Parliament CEEAC committee.

Also forgot to add that when they're talking about their 'huge' playlist - of course this is mostly catalogue music - so suggesting it in the same breath as 'new' Scottish music is misleading. To get a new track onto the station playlist isn't going to be easy.

Worth a watch/listen, questioning the 'evidence' given to the Scottish Parly's Constitution, Europe, External Affairs and Culture Committee by BBC Scotland on revisions to their Scottish music output.

We would add that barely any music is released around Xmas/New Year, so comparing Dec/Jan is daft.
