OH: tech bros in Silicon Valley discussing their commitments to postpone procreating, so they could have post (s-word) children after (a-acronym) becomes reality.
hot take: THIS IS BRILLIANT!!! WE NEED A KICKSTARTER TO PROMOTE THIS IDEA FAR AND WIDE. LET'S F*CKING GO!!!
There are a lot of Bad People out there, but Sam Altman might be the scariest
For the love of all things holy i am begging you please stop bringing the worst fucking takes imaginable from twitter and posting them here for clout.
Reminder that Paramount Skydance needs approval from Trump's minions to buy Warner Bros.
Yesterday, its subsidiary CBS banned Stephen Colbert from airing an interview with TX Democrat James Talarico.
Larry Ellison is sucking up to Trump by turning his media empire into MAGA propaganda.
This is monstrous. ICE can't be reformed, it must be dismantled and its thugs prosecuted for their crimes against humanity.
This mid-afternoon Alex Pretti vigil at the Portland VA was not heavily promoted. But the crowd probably stretches a quarter mile or more. Americans are galvanized and grieving.
People are right to be incensed, but there are more names to uplift. ICE killed an immigrant man named Silverio Villegas GonzΓ‘lez in Chicagoland. He had children. Victor Manuel Diaz was kidnapped in Minneapolis and died in ICE custody on January 14. Their names deserve to be repeated, too.
It's sickening that folks who don't have a pot to piss in are the only ones that can save us from all of this.
The powerful, rich and politically influential will continue to remain silent in their comfy castles on the hill.
Nobody is coming to help us.
Some people who could tell you about how law enforcement uses their de-escalation training.
The Economist coverage is grim but this is exactly how it should be reported.

Thrilled to announce chapter 09 of the Rust Lambda book.
In this one, we cover all things observability. If you're struggling to really understand your serverless applications, this one's the one for you.

Love this.
π¨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional!
ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.
Are we at that point yet where the leaders of the remaining civilized countries finally step in and take away the keys? Please?
Trumpβs America, you get executed for disrespecting ICE, Fed Chairs get threatened with criminal indictments if they donβt lower interest rates, and our closest allies for decades are threatened with invasion. We are in a dark place, a place some of us very much expected.
Hey, CBP isn't allowed to do any of the stuff it's doing in Minneapolis even within the confines of its extremely ridiculous "100 miles from any border" jurisdiction. It's 300 miles from Canada and 160 miles to Lake Superior. They're breaking the law standing around, let alone beating up protesters.
If you're in the SF bay area I hope to see you there

A lot of it is basically what I used to believe architects did when I was still early in my career. Of course, very few of them actually did that particular mix, but it's what I thought I saw and wanted to do. Now I can and I love it.
Mike turning out to be a Butthole Surfers fan was not on my bingo card.
Want to hear what two database professors Mike Stonebraker and @andypavlo.bsky.social really think about AI and data systems, plus a recap of 2025 and predictions for 2026? In case you missed the webinar, watch the full recording here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnQK...
Today in The December Comfort Watches: This is Spinal Tap. Because it's one of the funniest movies of all time, and I think Rob Reiner would want us to remember to feel joy, even, and especially, when surrounded by sadness.

These are the sorts of people who should be permanently shunned from civil society. Let it be known we have no place for you and they have to live with that shame all of their days...

My recent role wrapped up, and I'm taking some time to be thoughtful about what's next. I've spent my career deep in AWS Serverless, TypeScript, Node.js, and Python building devtools, APIs, backend services, and cloud infrastructure. I've worked as both a technical lead and as a people manager. I'm always open to exploring new technologies and stacks too. What I'm looking for: a mission-driven organization with an genuinely inclusive culture that values collaboration and knowledge sharing. As an AWS Hero, I'm active in the community through speaking, writing, and organizing, and I'd love to bring that same energy to a developer advocacy role or keep doing it alongside engineering work. Open to Software Engineer, Engineering Manager, Developer Advocate, Consulting, or similar roles. Location: Portland, OR metro or remote ππ» If you know of a team building something meaningful, I'd love to chat in person (I'll be at AWS re:Invent) or virtually!
Hey all, I'm seeking a new job. π
If you have any leads or connections π that would be much appreciated.
More details of what I'm looking for in the attached screenshot with alt text as that would be too long for a post.
Was off social media all day, only just heard the news. Predictably, The Harder They Come was my introduction. You Can Get It If You Really Want has itself so deeply embedded in my memories it will just pop in my head at the slightest nudge. Such a magical voice and timeless songs.
RIP Jimmy.
Hmmmβ¦what USAID wasnβt bad for Americaβ¦what if getting rid of it only hurt us and everyone else?
What if the richest man in the world being responsible for ending aid to the poorest people in the world will go down as one of the most bizarre and disgusting acts of the 21st century?
Hi, it's me again. I'm reposting this today because a whole lot of people who saw this yesterday told me they appreciated it.
Know this: I believe in you. If you need permission to have some quiet space for yourself, here it is. <3
Latest rabbit hole I've gone down: having Claude Code help me clean up and fine tune my Home Assistant configuration. Got through the basics and now it's moved into the "let's see what we can come up with next!" phase.
