Mechanically itโs what I planned, but itโs missing a soulโฆ the driving force. The urgency pushing the player forward. Without that itโs just another survivor/roguelite game, and Iโd really like to move away from that genre if I can for this one.
Hit a wall with the current gameโฆ itโs got all the pieces I technically need to start actually putting an alpha togetherโฆ. But itโs missing *something*. Iโve been mulling it over for a couple weeks now and Iโm not sure how to resolve it yet.

It's intimidating to try and find a unique angle for what, at it's core, is mechanically an arena twin stick shooter. Hoping to lean heavier into discovery and tone over the roguelike / survivor, but it's hard not to lean into that side for replay-ability's sake.
With this project I had a goal to make something I could sell for ~$5 and generate ~1,000 sales... but the scope has been (predictably) growing the more I explore, which has me a little nervous too
I've been shaping the visual identity and game design loop as I go, which has lead to some really exciting, organic ideas, but also a lot more jank. It's left me with a more embattled feeling about this one compared to my last 2 releases
The past couple months have been... strange. I've been quietly making progress on what I think will be my next game project, all while trying to juggle other obligations. Added challenge of working in Godot, and in 3D over Game Maker has definitely slowed me down, but I'm starting to see some payoff

Honestly, the whole game dev journey has been rocky as fuck, but I've never felt more "me" than when I'm working on or sharing my games. They may not have given me a clear path to financial stability, but I'll be damned if I ever stop trying to make it my life's work
I feel this. Storytelling is evergreen. Authors have been finding ways to create meaningful new experiences for hundreds if not thousands of years at this point. People (designers and consumers) need to stop frothing at the mouth about novelty
I've been neck deep in work so I've fallen off posting. But I just replayed some of Quantum Joe and damn... I'm still super proud of it! I poured a lot more heart into it than I had expected to, and imo it shows. #gamedev #indiedev
