It's okay, it was more of a "get it off my chest" moment than a "this is destroying my life" moment. Once we got past the "yes I actually want it", hairdresser was pleasant, professional, and did a good job.

Anyway, this has been a fucking rant about a pet fucking peeve. Literally if there is anyone in Canberra who will shave my head for twenty bucks on demand. I will be your customer until I fucking die.
And I'm not fucking ignorant. I know women have longer hair, tend to have more complex haircuts (and that's a social norm that needs to be interrogated). But the obvious fucking solution is base the cost on length and complexity. It's not like there aren't men with long hair out there.
But I remember back in the day getting clocked as male at a barbershop. I hand the guy my debit card with my female government name on it, guy tried to double the cost of the haircut he just gave me. A men's haircut was 20, a women's was 40. The second he could "prove" I was a woman...
It's just haircuts are one of the spaces where I've faced a weird amount of lateral violence as an agendered person. Like you're a fucking hairdresser, I don't need you to protect me from my choices. If I'm a cunt after the fact, call it out, "you got exactly what you asked for and no less".
"Buy clippers and do it yourself" - I've tried to. It takes me three times as long, and invariably looks less clean and grows in uneven.
I get there are queer friendly, gender neutral salons out there, who do it better than some derp at Just Cuts. I would prefer to support those businesses, sure. Even for a buzzcut, they invariably charge twice as much anyway, and while I'm not about to say they don't earn it, I can't afford it.
Asking for a number five "That's really short though." No shit! I've gone razor bald at multiple times of my life, a number five is a "me looking for employment" haircut. Also I couldn't actually afford a fucking haircut these last six months, I've also been depressed as shit!
Honestly just give me a hairdresser who doesn't ask "are you sure about that" when I ask for a fucking buzzcut. It's exhausting and condescending. It's "I can clearly see you have tits and need to check in that this isn't mental illness". It's insulting and condescending.
