The White House is trying to gut the Risk Management Program (RMP) that oversees 12,000 of the most hazardous facilities in the country.

More than 50% of U.S. residents live in a worst-case-scenario chemical disaster zone for these RMP facilities. (2/🧡)

⚠️ Chemicals of unknown safety have no place in the foods or drinks we put into our bodies.

But an investigation by Environmental Working Group found that chemical and food manufacturers have rubber-stamped at least 111 food chemicals for use in numerous products.

New proposal in Congress would gut key provisions of landmark chemical safety law, putting families’ health at risk - Toxic-Free Future A new U.S. Senate draft bill would dismantle core protections of the nation's main chemical safety law and make it easier for toxic chemicals to enter homes, schools, and workplaces.

Children’s health must come first, yet the chemical industry is now lobbying to weaken the chemical law that protects our families.

Alongside our allies, we're proud to be part of the Alliance for Health and Safe Chemicals.

Further, about 5 in 6 want government and business to do more to ensure chemical safety.

This week, President Trump issued an executive order to promote production of the toxic weedkiller glyphosate – the active ingredient used in Monsanto’s RoundUp.

This chemical should not be anywhere near farmers, families, or children – and it certainly has no place in our food.

What is Cocamide DEA?

Cocamide DEA is made by reacting coconut oil with a chemical called ethanolamine, which transforms it into a foaming agent that is often added to shampoos and soaps as an unnecessary thickener.

Cocamide DEA has been found to cause cancer. It has no place in any personal care products we use on our hair or on our skin.

Cocamide DEA is included on the ingredient lists printed on these products, so we know it is intentionally included.

Isn't Cocamide DEA a thing of the past?

We got Cocamide DEA off the market over a decade ago by taking legal action that brought over 120 companies to eliminate Cocamide DEA from their shampoos, soaps, and other hygiene products between 2013 and 2016.

Unfortunately, in 2023 we noticed the carcinogenic chemical creeping back into the market starting with dollar stores that traditionally serve lower-income populations.

What is CEH doing about it?

We sent notices of violation to Amazon, Target, and Walmart for selling shampoos, body soaps, and other hygiene products containing the carcinogenic ingredient Cocamide DEA.

We are optimistic that this lawsuit will prompt these retailers to stop selling products with Cocamide DEA to ensure shampoos, body soaps, and hygiene products are free of this carcinogenic ingredient.
