HELP
ICE is still here in MN, and our neighbors are still in hiding. Rent is due TODAY, and Iβm scrambling to raise funds to keep immigrant families in need out of eviction court. Can you help?

Part of why I am insistent that public libraries must be expanded is because they can offer us a foundation for unleashing creativity and for nurturing imagination. This is an affirmative project at a time when we desperately need to be FOR things and not just against them.
In @aunz.theconversation.com today, @profromance.bsky.social and I have a piece about adapting romance to the screen. What makes a good adaptation?
In a (vain, probably) attempt to combat the flood of romance-illiterate Valentine's Day thinkpieces, I wrote two of my own this year - one with @profromance.bsky.social about romance adaptations...
Oh this is an amazing deal on a wonderful series
Friday's court order says ICE agents can't stop vehicles that merely follow them. Agents claiming a car is "obstructing" them isn't enough. Judge Menendez says they would have to be "forcibly" obstructing, requiring force or the threat of force. Decision: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
What an act of betrayal to the Hmong community by our own government. People who put their lives on the line during Vietnam.

Iβm seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports.
And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: βNo, I donβt have to show you any documentation.β
Because thatβs how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.
Ongoing and obvious reminder that firing chemical weapons directly at people's heads like this *is* deadly force.
"Everyone in my part of Minneapolis is affected. On our streets, ICE is stopping people of color and demanding their papers. In America. US citizens do not have to prove citizenship to ICE. Yet people are being intimidated, some cases beaten up and detained, for requiring ICE to follow the law."

EASY WAY TO HELP
We literally donβt need ICE for anything
Can confirm I have personally seen three attempts just today of agents in a convoy of ICE vehicles trying to snatch random POCs along Central Ave - and then being chased off by neighbors with whistles. It's blatant racial profiling.
Minneapolis city council member says POC should stay home:
CODE RED: ICE is currently going DOOR TO DOOR in Minneapolis and Saint Paul! You do not have to open the door for them without a JUDGE SIGNED WARRANT! Monarca: 612-441-2881 Immigration Law Center Detention Line: 651-641-1011 Warrants labeled "Form I-205" or "Form l-200" are *NOT* judicial warrants. You do not have to open the door for them

Wilhoit's law:
"Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect."
This has been going on for months - note that she discusses it happening not only to her, but also to her son and uncle, apparently in separate incidents.
I'm really proud of this article. Quyanakpuq @redped.bsky.social for including me on this project. In this discussion between 5 Indigenous academic women, we discuss the intersection between feminism and Indigenous studies, with lots of suggested readings that shaped our thinking in this area.
