Incredible reports lately out of Baie du DorΓ©, Ontario of large flocks of Bald Eagles.
Just look at the numbers and photos of this ebird report, 286 Bald Eagles in one bay in Ontario. Wasnβt that long ago Iβd have thought there wasnβt that many in the whole province πͺΆ

oops that should have alt-text but is the 2026 sightings so far around here!
Yep, they've been around Hamilton/Burlington and some in Brantford. I guess "staying" might not be the right term -- more likely the extreme northern population has decided we are far south enough. They have been pushing further and further into northern Ontario during breeding season...

I forgot I added this when I moved the hosting to Transistor! I like how the page for this has a comments section from Bluesky itself.
Here in the wilderness of the Canadian Rockies, the birds are our hosts. We are their guests.

Big day! CBC News will add 33 local journalists and create 11 new bureaus this year, adding to last year's expansion of 30 journalists in 22 communities across Canada. Many of the new positions are based in Central and Western Canada. My editor's blog: www.cbc.ca/news/editors...

Found out today that you can take Live Photos from iOS and very easily stitch them into a video.
I took this as photos and later made it into video. There is some stuttering and one gap but Iβm pretty impressed

Hey #ornithology Bluesky! Is there an ornithologist out there who'd be up for being interviewed for a piece on how people can help birds that nest in their yards? Dos and don'ts for providing nest boxes, providing nesting material, ensuring safety from predators, etc?
Singing male Blackburnian Warbler, perched on a branch with his beak open, full of song. His yellow-orange face and breast practically glow against the muted blues of the background.
it's apparently #NationalBirdDay but that's every day for me really. To celebrate regardless, here's a singing male Blackburnian Warbler I painted for @songbirding.com a few years back. I'm just in love with their colors.

While I was going through my photos (all 11K+ of them, it was an action packed day), I noticed that this Cedar Waxwing looked to have red waxy tips on the tail feathers. I had not seen this before as the red waxy tips are on the wings, but have heard that this is possible.
