ICE hanging out next to the playground on my block in a literal white panel van.
A mural of a migrant and child on the side of BroTex in Saint Paul, where ICE abducted 14 workers and several observers in November in what was a sign of things to come across the Twin Cities. Fuck ICE.

For me, this was the start of the occupation. A week later they terrorized the East Side guns drawn with SPPDβs assistance.
One of the elementary schools in Talmageβs school district had an ICE car drive around and then try to park in the parking lot this morning before being chased away.
Saying "over half of the company's employees are people of color!" is so funny. What part of PoC making up the majority of retail employees is incompatible with systemic racism?!
Reminds me of the museum docent who told me the Pullman Car Company was anti-racist because they hired black porters.
Menzies is perfectly type-cast as "guy who was promised to be great, yet is persistently overshadowed by people closest to them"

Plenty of places with a progressive veneer have done shady shit. Plenty of places that would *seem* to have less-good politics vibe have done right by their workers & community.
Speaking as a union organizer with a specific focus on the hospitality industry, I find that _a lot_ of otherwise politically astute people fall into broad assumptions about employers based on very superficial vibes.
Damn are those still available somewhere?
Picked up this bad boy walking in Saint Paulβs Pride contingent this year, this is my only contribution to the jacket discourse

She then asked if he planned on feeding ICE. Mancini responded with his restaurantβs mantra: βWe feed customers.β Soon afterward, he hung up, spooked. βI donβt know if this is a podcaster from MAGA,β he says. βI donβt know who Iβm talking to. Because of that one thing, I got put on a pro-ICE list, or that we fed ICE.
This part is a great example. Lot's of people assume that because they know in their hearts they are asking something in good faith that that will somehow magically translate across phone/groupchat/social media without any context or relationship building.
I'm rare to jump to the defense of local biz owners (full disclosure; my union reps Mancini's workers) yet I've seen several examples these months of people speculating a biz is serving ICE entirely cuz they saw a suspicious vehicle in the lot. It's worth going beyond that before assuming the worst.
Well worth a read about an beautiful Saint Paul institution. Tensions have been understandably high around the Twin Cities for months, yet there's a valuable lesson here of not allowing speculation to outpace investigation most especially when in the midst of a crisis.
What sort of numbers should we watch for if things are trending towards a major turnaround?

one of my favorite expressions of hopefulness is the first 50 degree day in March every year when the neighborhood kids break out the baseball gloves to play catch. trying to will spring into existence. it is a hopeful day here in this corner of Saint Paul, and it rocks.

Someone should really invent a form of comeuppance for the powerful that doesn't have simultaneous negative effects for untold millions

Man, Zelenskyy telling Trump & Vance that the US has been lucky to have its oceans, but that we too will someday feel the "problems of war" seems like one of those quotes that gets put at the start of a history book covering events 5-15 years after the quote.
Maybe it's a new program from Lime Bikes
I have a similar take where I do actually think some basic Latin education should be a part of curriculum:
- helps with learning other Romance languages
- used in legal and scientific fields
