Portbury wharf reserve was lovely this morning. Lots of the usual ducks etc about. Lovely to hear the chiffchaffs starting to sing and we saw a few. The real treat was seeing siskins and a (lesser?) redpoll in the alder trees along the rhyne at the sea wall end. #AvonBirds #PWNR

Spied in the alder trees at Portbury Wharf this morning - a little gang of Siskin and a Redpoll.
Haven't seen a Redpoll before, so that was nice to see.

In frog news I spied this tiny little guy in the garden today, presumably from past year's spawn.

You just know when this Puffin news is in their next magazine it'll be accompanied by a full-spread birding holiday advert on the opposite page

Spied the Green Woodpecker again yesterday clinging to a distant neighbour's fence - it sat in this weird pose for a good few minutes before popping off into various gardens (except ours!)
A bonus Sparrowhawk was spotted much later in the day.

Just had a rarely-spied garden visitor - a nice Green Woodpecker.

Have only seen one here before, back in November.

Thanks, it was nice to see.
At one point they two flocks mixed up but subsequently split again.

I've issued a correction to my other post - they were Knot not Dunlin.

From Portbury Wharf Nature Reserve today we could see a giant murmuration over the Severnside area - presumably Dunlin based on reports earlier in the week (haven't seen any reports today yet).

164 Black-Tailed Godwit over Portbury Wharf Saltmarsh today at high tide. They flew off towards Avonmouth docks and further north.

Battery Point is not easy to get to when you‘re disabled but I am glad I made the effort. We went to see purple sandpipers, which are usually on the rocks, but they were on the buoy far out to sea, with some turnstone. We waited an hour, just as we were leaving two flew in onto the rocks. #AvonBirds

Took advantage of some dry weather and cycled over to look for the local Avocets. Sadly couldn't see any, just the usual suspects...

Some waders spied on the receding tide at Kilkenny Bay yesterday including:
- Curlew & Shelduck;
- Oystercatcher, Curlew & Redshank;
- Shelduck & Oystercatcher;
- Redshank and a cheeky Dunlin.

reckon there's maybe 8000 Dunlin in flock, not entirely sure how to count in such massive 3D flocks! At least 517 in the red square; guestimated the yellow numbers based on that.

Some Dunlin spotted at Clevedon this morning. Photos don't really do the amazing scene justice, several thousand were flocking about.

Excuse the shaky video and wind noises. We had the most wonderful experience at Clevedon sea wall today. Thousands and thousands of mostly dunlin. The sound of them flying past was incredible. The way the colour changes as they turn around. It was hypnotising. #AvonBirds

Some of the waders at Fisherman's Steps today. A rather low 10m high tide meant the birds were quite far out.
Numbers include:

A short walk out this afternoon on some random footpaths to the south of Portishead was quite productive - highlights include Stonechat, some Mistle Thrush and a Fieldfare.
