Many academics care about diversity in faculty hiring, but why? @azimshariff.bsky.social joins the show to talk about different rationales for diversity in hiring (and how well they hold up to scrutiny).

New episode! Mickey and Yoel talk about Canada's controversial euthanasia law (called MAID: medical assistance in dying). We also discuss a new paper that finds (or does it?) that ego depletion is not as dead as people think. share.fireside.fm/episode/Ah1O...
The show is taking a little break for the holidays. No new episode this month, but keep an eye out for a fresh one in early January!
Really worth a listen.
New episode! @minzlicht.bsky.social is back and fired up about citation diversity staments. We discuss the much-criticised Nature Reviews Psychology editorial encouraging authors to include them in their articles, as well as Mickey's very problematic beer tastes. share.fireside.fm/episode/Ah1O...
New episode! David Tannenbaum joins the show to talk about one of Yoel's favorite papers: a massive field study of honesty in 40 countries that had some unexpected results. Also, we talk about hiking and David actually drinks two beers. share.fireside.fm/episode/Ah1O...
Very cool episode on IA & empathy with key take away message: more honest and clear distinction between methodological problems of IA studies and fears about perverse effects of extension of IA in our lives
So happy to see back again on regular basis the best social science podcast couple ever 😍
Screenshot of references for the papers and podcast.
In advanced seminars, I use the „Is psychology evidence ready?“ debate to discuss what psych can REALLY contribute to managing societal crises. For prep, students skim the van Bavel paper, read the IJzerman response and listen to the debate episode on @fourbeerspod.bsky.social. Works really well!
New episode!

interviews Yoel about when to give up on a theory, and which of his own findings he no longer believes. But it's not all doom and gloom! We also talk about findings we think are solid, and, of course, Sydney Sweeney. share.fireside.fm/episode/Ah1O...
Beginning at around 51:30 -- "pretty extreme skepticism" among anonymously surveyed psychologists about microaggression training...
Very interesting episode about challenges replicating multiple randomly sampled studies from "the big journals" and what psychologist think about replication practices.
New episode! Returning guest Spencer Greenberg (spencrgreenberg.bsky.social) joins the show to talk replications, what psychologist think of controversial topics, and an AI tool he developed to predict correlations between psychological traits and survey questions.

New episode! UBC's Amori Mikami rejoins the show to talk to Yoel about DEI. Many prominent universities are rethinking DEI policies that once seemed unquestionable. So what is the future of DEI in higher ed, and what should it be? share.fireside.fm/episode/Ah1O...
This podcast episode so perfectly illustrates how preregistration allows others to evaluate the severity of a test. Authors opportunistically deviate. The analyses are clearly not reliable. Now we can see. Preregistration delivers on it promise. Even when - maybe especially when - authors deviate.
New episode! David Pizarro (@peez.bsky.social) joins the show to talk about the concept of "purity" in moral psychology. Is there really a unified psychology of handwashing, pet-eating, and baby Jesus buttplugs, or is purity just a chimera? share.fireside.fm/episode/Ah1O...
New episode!
@minzlicht.bsky.social is back to talk about cannabis research, empathic AI, and some stuff we saw at SPSP. share.fireside.fm/episode/Ah1O...
There will be no new episode in February (mostly because of travel)--but we'll be back in March with a special guest!
Better late than never, it’s out! share.fireside.fm/episode/Ah1O...

January's episode will be late due to Yoel packing the wrong mic to Vancouver 🤦♂️
The episode (featuring @syeducation.bsky.social) will be out by Monday the 20th. Sorry about the delay, all!
Enjoyed this conversation of @yoelinbar.net and @minzlicht.bsky.social on Bluesky as a political bubble. One glance at #FIFA confirms their stance. Only variations of the same opinion about Saudi Arabia as the World Cup host.

New episode! Mickey returns to talk about the 2024 election, Bluesky, and his crusade against yard signs. We discuss prediction markets, Democratic declines with non-college voters, and whether Bluesky is a left-wing bubble (and if so, if that's a problem). share.fireside.fm/episode/Ah1O...

I'd highly recommend it. I sometimes get annoyed at what I'd consider a somewhat unfair/imbalanced treatment of certain progressive views, but it's always an interesting listen.

New episode! Paul Bloom joins the show to talk about whether much of developmental psychology is not worth doing, where he thinks psychology has succeeded, and whether we should be more skeptical of progressive-friendly social science findings.
