oh i did not even notice that lol

me whenever i remember linkedin exists and i have an account
while that may be true never underestimate the value/usefulness of random data to interested parties (speaking as ur friend, not an interested party) (thank the spaghettis iβm generally trustworthy and get to say stupid shit)
it sounds like a nice idea until it starts giving some interested party a nice little json of your electricity consumption over x amount of time to showcase ur house occupancy load over-time so that an interested bad party could better plan house break-in times and optimize for empty house
see,i still haven't seen reliable answers from any model about infra stuff involving capacity planning, finops, vendor software selection. not even like "should we self-host this thing or buy saas option",granted teams need research to do too but danger is LLMs pretend to be good at answering these
if someone tries to sell me a smart fridge or a washingmachine i think i might pop a vein
i couldnβt pull that dress off they look very glamorous :0
University of Waterloo @UWaterloo This account is no longer active. Looking to stay connected with the University of Waterloo? News: uwaterloo.ca/news/ Bluesky: uwaterloo IG: uofwaterloo FB: university.waterloo LI: uwaterloo Thank you
University of Waterloo is leaving Twitter. We need all Canadian colleges and universities to do the same if they're still there. The Canadian social site Gander would be a good option. π

The more who leave, the better.
i guess what i'm trying to say is, we must find ground in the petit rΓ©cits amidst the grand narratives.
it seems like there are two kinds of ppl in the world, those that do thisπand those that start lamenting/gloating about gold ETFs and oil stock prices and complaining about air flight prices with what seems like no regard for human life whatsoever so itβs interesting
I'm not quite ready to announce this on LinkedIn yet because it's terrible timing with the book, but I was impacted in the rolling layoffs leading up to The Big One today at Block.
I have been taking the time as a sabbatical to finish edits and get my health in order before my next adventure.
oh i didn't know ππππππππ but also you are first and foremost an award winning SWE that's for sure. we don't let abusers define who we are, and you're you!
hi bud, hope you are doing well!
years ago i took on a writing project that involved reading primary resources like personal diaries throughout the sino-japanese war. when bombs were falling all around shanghai the author of the journal maintained regular life. those embroiled in it find moments of life and so must we.
iβm just not sure thatβs the healthiest thing to do (even though i also engage in this pattern). somehow our homework becomes: finding personal and microcosmic meaning in our private sufferings and joy, taking brief moments of solace, when empires are falling and people are dying.
living through history-defining moments humbles those w less of an ego, personal strifes and struggles seem insignificant by comparison. im seeing kind ppl reduce their own needs & support for themselves in face of global despair:βwhat do i have to be sad about when ppl r facing war &destructionβ
oh ffs not the US doing bs again come the fuck on
the whole anthropic thing is like, bad guy can be bad for always bad guy does a lot of bad things and bad guy does one good thing then thatβs redemption arc and everyone cheers classic storytelling device sucks for irl tho
<_>
itβs not always that rich, sometimes itβs about shareholders getting their dividends rich
i am slowly running out of steam on trying to convince ppl who buy into βwe donβt need human collaboration agentic workflows can replace human teamworkβ at all levels of seniority/decision making power but i think iβll keep trying for a while longer, cuz most things worth doing are difficult
not gonna lie my hairline is suffering from talking to younger engs who cant debug or send a work update without LLMs.iβm not saying u shouldnβt use LLMs, but even in the age of calculators in every device mental math is helpful, and doing work without relying on LLM will always be critical
if u deeply care about the future industry and the safety of the internet, u would be concerned like me because we are seeing a rapture in mentorship. we worry in another decade there will be fewer or even no staff/principle engs like us,bc companies arenβt investing in building talent
for eng like me who have had the privilege of doing complex system macro work before AI tore a rift and we stepped back in workplace culture and quality delivery by about 13 yrs, we donβt worry about future prospects thereβll be plenty of work fixing the stuff done byβAI replacing programmersβ BUT
if i rolled my eyes the way i wish i still could without hurting my own brain every time i heard βprogrammers will be obsolete from the workplace cuz AI could do the work of a whole team in a month in three daysβ im gonna end up walking around with eye whites only
if uβve been around long enough and have been in money-moving convos u could read between the lines but more often than not the whole βwe are laying ppl off cuz of AIβ tears a new wave of panic and storytelling by traditional media and its audience and employees who buy more into surface narratives
itβs been how many years since we started hearing the rhetoric βwe are laying ppl off bc AI has rendered these human employees uselessβ when the actual reasons are a myriad of βwe over hiredβ βwe are making decisions based on some new trendy statsββall my frds r doing itβ etc
