An email with subject line: Action Required: Important Update to Your Binghamton BUC$ Account

The email reads:
Our records indicate that you currently have a remaining balance in your BUC$ account of: $0.20

BUC$ was an optional, prepaid campus funds program that allowed students to add money to their Binghamton University ID and use it at participating on-campus locations, including Dining Services, the Food Co-Op, and the University Bookstore, much like a stored-value gift card. The University decided to discontinue the BUC$ program as part of a transition to more modern and widely used payment options.

As a result, all remaining BUC$ balances must be resolved prior to the program’s closure.

Important deadline:
The BUC$ program will officially close on May 31, 2026. Action must be taken before this date.

You may choose one of the following options:

Option 1: Convert your BUC$ balance to Dining Dollars
If you're on an active meal plan and have a BUC$ balance, you can convert your remaining BUC$ to Dining Dollars by contacting the Dining Services Meal Plan Office. You must convert your BUC$ balance to Dining Dollars by May 13. Dining Dollars can be used at all eligible Dining Services locations on campus. All Dining Dollars will roll over as long as you have a current meal plan and enroll in a Fall 2026 meal plan.

Thank GOODNESS Binghamton let me know about the twenty cents I left in my BUC$ account 17 years ago! I'd better hurry up and resolve that.

Is TMS perfect? No. The way it handles accessions if you have more than one object coming from a donor at a time is totally inexplicable. But it moves pretty dang well.

March is absolutely stacked across Colchester Castle and the Natural History Museum. If your diary needs a nudge towards “do something nice”, this is it.

First up: a calmer start, and a proper look at what’s coming.

Heartbreak on the Colonial Front: Women’s Writing, the Seven Years War, and Humanity in the Archive By Thomas Lecaque This article is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Patrick Lecaque, 1/15/1949-10/11/2025, who taught his son the joy of history, of research, of discovery, and to find the individuals…

A powerful look at how women’s writing during the Seven Years’ War reveals the raw emotion, loss, and humanity often hidden in colonial archives. A moving reminder that behind every global conflict are intimate stories worth remembering. @tlecaque.bsky.social ageofrevolutions.com/2026/03/02/h...

I don't love the name and can see where the alarm is coming from, but also see a need for a way to reformulate non-academic contributions as "respectable". Fashion history used to have a mix of academics and dedicated hobbyists, and the latter perspectives have been dropped in recent years.

Poor families used to own my ancestors. Poor families benefitted from depressing their labor and drowning their communities after they were freed. Misdeeds often are financially attractive; it'd be pointless if they only offered moral compromises. Having integrity isn't a privilege, it's a choice.

I was born in an Iranian prison. My parents were held in their jails. My uncles lie in their mass graves.
Nothing you can tell me about the crimes of the Iranian regime that I haven't lived in blood and bone.
That doesn't mean I want my people bombed, maimed, killed, their homes in ruins.
If your vision of liberation comes only through the destruction of innocent lives, then it's not freedom you're after.

I am pro Iranian people. I stand with them against their own government’s repression AND against the imperial violence in the form of bombs dropped from the sky from Israel & the US who have already killed hundreds.

I support neither imperialism or dictatorship.

Being a Luddite Is Cool and All, but Have You Seen the Hilarious Tapestries These New Looms Are Making? Don’t get me wrong, I’m as invested in keeping my job as the next weaver. When the boss brought in that big new power loom, I was pretty skeptical....

"I’m pretty sure technological progress is a law of nature, like gravity or death. The power loom, as we know, is inevitable, preordained by God, who works His miracles through the hands of rich and wise inventors. It’s foolish to resist it."

The subject of the figural decoration of this hydria (water jar) is Herakles and Iolaos slaying the Hydra.

Painted in black figure, the scene occupies the upper register on the body of the vessel between the two side handles. Herakles approaches from the right grasping one of the heads of the nine-headed, bearded Hydra with his left hand and raising his club with his right. Herakles is armored in a corslet and greaves. To his right, a large crab pinches Herakles' heel. Iolaos rushes forward from the left grasping one of the Hydra heads with his left hand and preparing to cut it off with the sickle he brandishes in his right. Underneath Iolaos is a small fire. On the reverse of the vessel, two sphinxes flank the vertical back handle, striding away from the center.

Etruscan, from Caere, Etruria, about 520-510 BCE. Attributed to the Eagle Painter (Greek, Caeretan, acitve 530-500 BCE).

Getty Villa, Pacific Palisades-Malibu, California (83.AE.346)
