It doesn't look like Hays is going to be able to do that, but I trust the coaches who know the players better than I ever will. They wouldn't have her in their locker room if they didn't believe she was able to learn those lessons.
Yeah, if there's one thing I really appreciate about Iowa and how they coach their posts, it's to establish position, catch the entry, and **have a plan** for what they're going to do after the catch before the ball hits their hands.
Czinano, Stuelke, Heiden: They all make good, quick decisions.
they have to take Stuelke out and keep her out.
4+ min left. They're winning. They need Hays and Houston and others to get serious minutes. They're up enough that they're not going to lose, but there's enough time its theoretically possible, so the backups would have to put in real effort.
Did you see that Heiden assist?
Beauty.
Literally 5 players with a finger on the ball and 2 more standing right next to the pile.
The difference between Heiden & Hays is night and day.
The good news is that she's a frosh and (as I just said) Iowa has a strong history of development. But she's just really not ready for the big time this year.
2028 those three will still be together, their state will treat them as basketball gods (deserved), and they'll be in the F4 for either the first, or if they get lucky, the second time since Clark left.
Stremlow, ChitChat, and Heiden are all sophomores.
2028 they're going to the final 4.
I know, people will say I don't know about the transfer portal, etc. But Iowa doesn't play that game. The people who go are loyal, and they have a tradition of development not portal replacement.
Yeah, that's Parchment IIRC. She played huge roles in their first and 2nd round victories. But that is going to take it out of you.
I admit I haven't seen enough Iowa State this year. Only half of one game + one condensed game. I wouldn't want to play them. They're very good, and Crooks can go off vs anyone, so not even UCLA or UConn should feel comfortable facing them.
In fact, I'd love to see UCLA v ISU for Crooks v Betts.
Am I remembering wrong, or did you say your team is Iowa State?
I don't have the body to play, but I've been watching the women's game long enough to maybe assistant coach.
Earlier today I said OSU would beat Minnesota if they could press (preferably intermittently and unpredictably throughout the game) for turnovers to feed their fast break without getting too fatigued before the end.
They used the press to get a lead, then intermittently, managing fatigue, and won.
I actually surprise myself how often I'll say something out loud about how the game is going to go, who will win, and what the margin of victory will be to the computer or texting with a friend while a game is still in the first 10 min, and then... it works out close to what I said.
On the contrary, it's the perfect level of cringe for a Medium piece.
Agreed.
Fortunately that won't happen when Oregon plays Michigan later today. My home state team would never do that to me.
The announcer: "Oh my goodness! I didn't know it was all like that!"
That Stremlow assist!
If they were going to show those championship highlights while talking about Martin and Marshall being there, they could have focussed on buckets (and assists! and steals!) by someone other than Clark.
Yeah, for sure.
Though I spent time at Michigan State and my sympathy for the evil imps is tempered by the defeat they handed my Spartans yesterday.
#BeatIllinoisBecauseThey'reEvilAndTheyDressFunny
Iโm not kidding, I was almost emotionally overwhelmed yesterday by people sharing their stories at my table.
This is why I take this job seriously, you never know who is reading or what they are going through.
Maybe Rogue or Sonja will say something they needed to hear at that moment.

That's the game I'm watching.
I think Stremlow is a Kate Martin-level talent and can play in the W. Heiden, though, I think is better than Steulke and can equal Czinano, maybe exceed her a little. Unless she's limited by injuries, Heiden's going to have a productive career in the W.

I mean, if UConn was beating Vandy 49-17 I'd chalk it up to UConn playing their best game of the year and Vandy having unusually large struggles with UConn's defense.
But #5 Vandy losing by 32 points to #24 Ole Miss? With Vandy being ~tripled up?
There is no excuse for this.

Based on win-loss, it's hard to fault the poll voters for ranking Vanderbilt #5 in the country.
I've been a mild critic of their rank bc I don't think they're reliable in big games. They're amazing at times, but I don't trust them.
EVEN SO, I did not expect them to be losing 49-17 at half. WTAF?
Backing "not bombing" over "bombing" is not backing Iran over Israel. "Not bombing" is in the best interest of literally everybody.
I'm getting one trip to the refrigerator per 6 rolls of Smarties.
I know a lot of ppl would be shocked if Trump arrested Roberts and declared CJ vacant.
I would be appalled. I would fight it. But I would not be shocked.
My question is to SCOTUS. How would they respond to such an eventuality given Trump v US?
I honestly DK, esp if he immediately noms Alito.
Okay, I was gonna be mad on your behalf otherwise.
