I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.

Former Saudi intelligence chief, Turkey Al Faisal: This is not our War, this is Netanyahu trying to escape from his crimes in Gaza.
Narrative in the gulf is turning against the US and the war on Iran.
Translations in alt text, but general gist is resentment against being pulled into a war which is a distraction for what is happening in Gaza.

Paper books are all very well, until your eyesight goes and the only way you can comfortably read is to double the size of the text.
Yeah, I *prefer* paper books, who doesn't?

I live 15 minutes walk from Scotland's national rugby stadium, Murrayfield.
So naturally, next weekend when Scotland play England at that stadium, I will be taking the train to Fife to watch the match from a pub. ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ

It's a complex issue, certainly.
FWIW the estimates I've seen for the ratio of false accusations of assault are tiny. The social cost is too high for the accuser. Much worse in this case, because as you say, NG was loved and admired.

Reaction: Arjan Codes wrote tests the HARD way - My way is BETTER
YouTube video by Emily Bache
This is SUCH a good video from @emilybache.com
It's so dense with information:
โ๏ธ Great advice for making your tests more maintainable;
๐ฅ A cool new (to me!) library (approvaltests);
๐ ๏ธ and just the way Emily knows her IDE (PyCharm of course ๐)

I spoke to a dev last week who doesn't use notebooks because he "prefers to work in an IDE."
Not only does PyCharm give you #Jupyter notebooks in the IDE, along with autocompletion, debugging ... it can also now run your notebook in Google Colab, meaning you can run on a GPU instance with a click.

Hello! Mark from PyCharm here :)
So pleased that you find PHPStorm and PyCharm useful! If you had time to drop me maybe your favourite 3 features of PyCharm I'd love to know (I'm especially interested in how it changes the way you work). Feel free to drop me any complaints you have, too ๐

Cities in Germany broken down into which quadrant they belong to (North-East, etc).
As it often the case when I am in Germany, the topic of (painful) train travel came up, and in particular: is it quicker to go NorthโSouth than EastโWest? Me being me, I wondered if I could answer this with data: geo.houseofmoran.io/posts/2025-1...

Last year, I took eight months off work (which is a HUGE privilege). It's the hardest and most important thing I've ever done, and it's paying dividends.
We'll see where next year goes, but I have incredible people around me and I'm genuinely excited.

When Kittens Came to My Prison, I Had Not Petted One in 15 Years
I had not touched a cat in 15 years when an orange kitten wandered over to sit with me in the grass.
"I had not touched a cat in 15 years when an orange kitten wandered over to sit with me in the grass one day. I was left without adequate words to describe that experience. It reminded me that I am alive."
