It is interesting (and quite bad for our civic life) that he didn't lose anything from his "Bob Martin from Flatbush" stunt at the City of Yes hearings, and that he knew he wouldn't. Imagine if anyone on the pro-transit or YIMBY side had used a fake name to testify twice about anything.
NYC Council Member Vickie Paladino (R) crashing out over a new apartment building in her district that will likely be approved tomorrow due to the "Affordable Housing Appeals Board" adopted by voters last November.
It's long, but the whole 7 minutes is worth it!

NOEM: We haven't deported veterans

*youth pastor voice* Hey kids, let me tell you about another creator who also streamed from afar....
let's take a moment to appreciate what this goofy city council mailer is really saying: we can't get transit upgrades, parks, school upgrades etc unless a condo developer is involved.
Love to have an early voting electorate bigger than the population of Denver (h/t @ldpreload.com)
It's true! Many DSA members and @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social supporters *also* support questions 2-4! At the 41-minute mark in this segment, you can hear me and @aschierenbeck.bsky.social on the Brian Lehrer show on @wnyc.org discussing why these are pro-labor proposals: www.wnyc.org/story/the-ho...
Yes on 2 and 4 too IMO. 2 is like 3, fast tracking public housing and districts where CMs have blocked new affordable housing and driven pressure to other neighborhoods. 4 also reduces power of individual CMs who like to say no to everything.

You couldn't ask for a better endorsement of Ballot Props 2-5 than Sliwa going on an unhinged rant about them. Is Adrienne Adams still sure she wants to hitch her wagon to that sinking ship?

New York City calls itself a refuge for queer and trans Americans, but that promise is at risk if we don't take on the housing crisis head on. Read my op-ed about the need to build more housing to reduce rents, in this case, via the OneLIC project: gaycitynews.com/new-york-rem...

The Lord Mayor of London in a golden fucking carriage
Apparently London has both a βMayor of Londonβ (does normal mayor stuff) and a βLord Mayor of Londonβ (does civic events in costumes) and like, not to hand it to England, but I think Iβve figured out what we can do with Eric Adams
A zine is like a magazine, but without the MAGA.
Just heard Bill Kristol, former chief of staff for Dan Quayle, say he thinks ICE should be defunded and that the entire DHS should probably be disbanded, which puts him to the left of maybe the majority of elected Democrats. Truly wild times weβre living in.

Psalm 120 (NRSV) from a hymnbook, which ends with the two quoted verses.
Too long have I had to live
among the enemies of peace.
I am on the side of peace,
but when I speak of it,
they are for war.
To be clear, I fully agree with you. (Maybe my phrasing was unclear?)
I think it could have gone a little better if we weren't set up for failure, but I mostly mean that Biden had the option to reject the withdrawal and recommit troops, and he didn't, and he deserves so much credit for that.
When Trump's attacked our city, Iβve fought back and won.
With Brooklyn families being priced out of our homes & neighborhoods, I know we've got more work to do.
This is my community. Iβm in this fight for you.

I don't know why we keep ignoring Biden's Afghanistan retreat. Yes, the previous admin set him up for that and for it to go poorly, but he could have made different choices, and he didn't. To me, that outweighs everything negative of his admin. I wish other anti-war folks would see it like that.

They can and they have. ICE's "sensitive sites" policy was dropped the first morning of this term: apnews.com/article/immi...
