This is so good to know! Yeah they were scoping out some dense brush but they've otherwise seemed clueless. It's been so different than chickens, who mostly (though, lol, certainly not always) seem to have the nesting programming down pact.

Sometimes I'll say stuff like "Melora (@historyofhyrule.com) has been the heart of the Zelda community for 20+ years" and people kinda nod along. Something a friend of Melora would say!

But I MEAN IT! Here's the oldest example I know of of a Zelda creator referencing the English fan community.

I think I recall they said they'd been pushing their publisher for that so we saw our role as trying to drive up Western sales & interest. I figured if we could write publishers, & get enough people to import it (you could do that at any bookstore with an ISBN), then they'd reconsider localization

I didn't want to draw attention to my site so I didn't have it or my name/url attached to the campaign. I asked a lot of people not to include me in the push too: I wanted it to look like people's interest was independent of each other, so it appeared to be wide scale & not just a small, loud, group

It's amazing what a ragtag band of fans can accomplish. So much is being preserved and made accessible thanks to you! I'm so excited you did it!!

Well, I ran the fan campaign. & I did try to pull in any favor I could by telling other people/webmasters they had to post & hype it because if they had ever liked or used anything I had done then they needed to make this happen in return 😆 I needed Nintendo to know people wanted art & info books! 😆

Part 2:
People had also been asking me if there was going to be a TP manga & I can't recall if we emailed again? But we learned publishers were telling them there wasn't enough interest & sales would be too low. So that's when we started pushing, writing publishes, & trying to drive up hype again

I believe there was another email where they told her that their publisher had said the Zelda manga would never be released outside of Japan due to a lack of interest. So we set about trying to change that

Though some of the Plinka art WAS in a guide that was later reproduced by Nintendo of America but they also cut her pages.

The similarities in what was cut, and how thing were used, kinda have some wild parallels between that guide and these 2 gold guides.

I think the only reason people could call the red version canon is because it was in the game booklet, which is something one would count as canon, and was probably painted by one of the actual devs. Everything was such a hot mess back then, lol.
